LAKOTA169 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 On a Dodge forum I belong to, I mentioned about wanting to rebuild my 218 engine similar to the builtup ones on here (Blueskies, Don's, etc). Someone asked me what kind of power would they put out (bored, dual carbs, cam, 230 crank, and split manifolds). Has anyone ever dyno'd one or ran at the strip? Quote
woodscavenger Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 If you search the HAMB someone was running a hopped up flattie on a dyno. I think he was trying to get 200hp if I remember correctly but got somewhere around 160-180 if memory serves correct. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Don has the 25 inch engine, with a lot of goodies:D Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I saw this one at the Don Garlits Drag Racing museum a couple of years ago. this might me more like what you'll get with minor mods. I'd think you would need some serious work done to reach the 200 HP mark. Merle Quote
greg g Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 well I ran mine on the chassis Dyno last october. since we didn't have the basic numbers for the set up we did some educating guess ing. Something about simulating air resistance at 50 mph, and I did not want to do a high rpm run. I limited the pull to 3200 Rpm. The info I got back was 78 HP at the wheels, at 63 MPH. So it is probably if you add 25% for drive train Frictional loss gives me 97 HP and add 40 to simulate wind resistance, that puts mine a 137 Flywheel HP, might pick up 2 or 3 more with RPM at 3600. So figuring my 56 230 was rated at 125 flywheel at 3600, the .030, overbore, the dual carbs, freed up exhaust and milling and decking have added maybe 15 HP. Which sounds about right as the 56 2bbl option from the factory raised the rating to 132 a pick up of 7 hp with just the carb. 8 more for the upped CR and increased Cu in. (.030 = 5 cubes on the 230) sounds reasonable. The fellow onthe hamb is trying to run 5000= Rpms t get his 200. I think his last pull was a 4300 or so and gave him 165 or so. He is talking about doing some flow work and other things as he cana't seem to pull over 4500 before the engien developes a miss. Somebody talk me down if you think those nubers are phooey! Quote
