I've been looking for a trunk mat for my car. I was wanting felt, but rubber would be okay too. I contacted First Class Parts on Ebay, but apparently they went out of business. Anybody else out there selling or making these type of mats?

If you just want a felt mat, why not make your own. They are not hard to make. Just buy a piece of felt a little larger than the trunk. Lay it in the trunk, then cut around the edges with a craftsman's knife. That's how I made my trunk mat out of marine carpet. It's a piece of cake to make one, and doesn't take much time at all.

I bought that marine carpet not long after buying the seatcovers and headliner back in the late 90's. That was also before anyone was making carpets to fit our cars interiors. The original plan was to use it for the floors inside the car, trunk floor, lid and walls in the trunk. I later found a fitted carpet to match my seat covers though so didn't use the carpet for inside the car. So.........now I have a lot left over wrapped in plastic in the garage.

I bought the carpet at Mill's Fleet Farm store in Menomonee Falls, WI. (close by me). They had it on sale for $2 per lineal foot x 6 feet wide back then. You can also get marine carpet from the big box lumber yards like Menards, Lowes or Builders Square. Don't know what they would charge you for it today. It also comes in about 3 to 5 different colors.

That said. If you are not in a hurry and want the light gray, I've got lots. I bought about 20 feet of it back then. All I used was a piece of about 6 feet to cover the trunk floor. If you are coming to the Oconomowoc POC meet in June, I'll sell you all or enough for your trunk for the same price I bought it for, $2 per foot. I did use about another 6 feet or so in the basement also. So, there is probably only about 8 or 10 feet left.

If you don't want it, the same offer applies to others. However, if you are not here to pick it up, it probably would be cheaper to buy it locally due to the freight charges involved. It's not light weight.

Made my trunk mat from a in-door carpet remnant I found at Lowes in the clearance box. It was easy to work with and molded well to the contours off the trunk area.

Thanks Norm. I'm not sure if I'm coming up to WI meet or not. Thanks for the offer though. There is a lowes, home depot, and Menards close by. I'll probably go and buy some carpet. So is about 6 feet enough to do the trunk area?

I've got a thin piece felt in the trunk, but it is showing wear pretty bad. I can use it as a pattern though.

I would think 6 feet would be enough. I really didn't measure mine. I just unrolled some off the roll I had and put it all the way back to the back of the seat. Then cut it about even with the bumper, then trimmed that to fit in the trunk. Mine is a coupe though and I believe you have a 4 door. So, don't think your trunk is as deep as mine. Just measure from the back of the seat out to the center of the trunk lock. Than add about a foot to that to be safe. Since the rolls are usually 6 feet wide anyway, you shouldn't have to worry about the width.

Sorry about the Builders Square comment, I meant Home Depot. Don't think Builders Square is around anymore.

At one time, I made a trunk mat out of commercial type carpet.

Worked fairly well. I've been told the stuff sold at Lowe's Home

Center is pretty good for cars.

I bought a roll of maroon car carpet at a wholesale upholstry place in

Kansas City---enough to do the entire car, including the trunk. Had

it all installed by an upholstry shop. He put binding on the edges and

fit it rather well. Has felt padding under it. Charged me $250 for the

installation. This is where I got the carpet, plus some vinyl intended

for the seats.

Made my own side panels with cardboard from Hobby Lobby and

$6.99 per yard vinyl from a fabric store. Put some cotton batting

between the cardboard and vinyl for a little fullness. I'm definitely

an amateur when it comes to upholstry, but it looks ok at a glance.
