Ed Fleming Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I have 1948 ply special deluxe with vac wipers is there a 6 volt electric set up for this car? Quote
steveplym Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Ed, I do not know of any 6 volt setup to convert the vacuum to electric. There is a 12V unit available, but that doesn't help you much. I kept the vacuum wipers on mine. I found a good used motor and used a vacuum canister with it. It works really well, but it's getting time to get the motor rebuilt. There are still businesses out there that do that work. greg g Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 If you are looking for a more consistant operating pattern, plumb in a vacuum reservoir in the line and hide it up under the dash. You can find thes in junk yards o many ford and Gm cars. they were used for stuff like vacuum operated ventilation controls head lamp doors and other stuff. they have a check valve and will provide eough vacuum for half a dozen or so swipes. Andydodge Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 All Australian mopars at least into the early 50's used 6 volt electric wipers, there is no mention even of a vaccum wiper setup in the workshop manuals up to at least '54, I haven't got any 6v stuff now but can ask around or maybe if you try some other Oz members here they might be able to help.......my rodded 40 Dodge uses a 12v english style cable drive wiper setup and the 41 Plymouth Coupe still has the vaccum wiper even tho someone had converted the car to 12 volts.......I know why you don't like the vaccum wipers......lol........andyd Quote
'37 P4 Touring Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Do you really drive much in rain? I removed my wipers and use Rainex. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I second rainex for any car, maybe 12V wiper with a coverter box, step your 6 to 12 just for your wipers? Or is ther such a creature? Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I bought this vacuum can on the bay several years ago for around ten bucks. Quote
