Before you guys get mad or start hollering at me it is just a thought as my head is always going 120mph:confused: Saw the Plym with the Packard front grill and,,,,,,,,,, How would a D-24 look with a Desoto grill? Wonder how hard it would be to put one on? Just a thought.

Asked for that  Didn't think it through. Might look at other grills. Just not a big fan of the grill kind of plane. Might not change a thing, This is way down my list as I still have brakes and get motor running, ans redo wiring harness. (might make my own):D

A 52 DeSoto grill would look sharp in there.:) However, those are hard to find and expensive to have re-chromed. Not only that they are usually expensive when you do find them in bad shape. That's because the street rodders and custom guys love those grills in the 49/50 Mercury lead sleds.

Back in the day, 50/early 60's a lot of people put bar grills to make custom grills. They look good too. That would be cheap to do if you make your own. Just pick up some 1" square pieces of hollow steel bars, cut them to fit, make a fastening system for it, then have it chromed. Should look sharp if done right.

Another neat looking grill would be about a 49 or 50 Olds grill cut down to size to fit. Have a friend with a 46 Ford Convertible that did that and looks and fits great. Have seen a lot of other street rod 46 Fords done the same way.

Lots of options out there. Just do a search of late 40's early 50's cars and look at the grills, then pick one you like. You could probably make any of them fit. If done correctly, should look neat.

Ed,

Good shot of the old style bar grille. Those were so popular with the custom guys back in the 50's/early 60's that you could actually buy them already made for some cars.

Today you see a lot of people making them with the square tube steel I mentioned. I've also seen a few made with small diameter pipe too at the shows.

I've still seen then available for a few pickup trucks. Don't think todays cars lend themselves to this style of modification though. Reason I took a nice shot like that is I would consider it for my 51.

I've seen them for trucks too today.

The bar grille would look good in your 51. The bars wouldn't be hard to do. But.....you'd probably have to find some nice looking stainless trim to go with it if yours is bad.

Actually for the 46 - 48 the outer stainless of the 51/52 Olds goes good with the bar grille. You would have to modify the size to make it fit and look right though.

Here's a shot of the whole package. I was very impressed with this car. Only things I may have done differently are upgraded to the stainless surrounded windshield and the mirrors.

great looking car. nice to see a 4 door done and saved. i personally have always liked 4 doors and as my back problems are worse with age the extra doors and easier access are an added bonus.in my youth 4 doors meant more room for making out, now they mean more room for getting out if i am back there. dennis

Nice Poncho. I bet you wish you still had that one.

You got that right. Had it lowered, names/emblems removed, Buick Wildcat wheels, and a 45rpm record changer w/reverb. Used it to tow my '64 GTO to the dragstrip. Of course, I wish I still had the GTO also.
