Young Ed Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Your posts inspired me to go have a look for 55-56 dodges. No nice ones at the moment. One similar to the one I had only without the hemi. Seems over priced! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1955-Dodge-Custom-Royal-Lancer-2drht_W0QQitemZ360104674369QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item360104674369&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I seem to recall same fender brow&headlight configuration on dodge truck as the car featured. What year? Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Yes but not the fancy model, couldn't you get them in the standard beds. Year? Quote
Young Ed Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Right the front 1/2 of that truck is the same as any other 57. Just has a fancy bed and paint job. Quote
Normspeed Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 That 55 is in amazing shape. I have a soft spot for 55 Plymouths. In the mid 60's I drove one from south Fla to southern CA on a wing and a prayer. I paid $50 for mine at the time. Had rust holes in the rear fenders big enough to put your head through but it got me across the USA with no sweat. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 It was dodge's answer to the Cameo, it actually used styling cues from a finned station wagon of the day. Including the station wagon tailgate I believe. Was it the original "Adventurer"? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 the marriage of the truck and the 57 Dodge Suburban wagon...(fenders and bumper)...modified taligate and special fabricated trim...this quick fix was the work of SEG and therefore did not need release permission form Central Engineering Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 SEG ? Enlighten the grasshopper Master! Was the name right? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Special Equipment Group...this team modified trucks to meet fleet and individual customer demands..and as the Sweptside falls into this group..they were each built at SEG shop as a special product...these were never assembled alongside of production trucks...this was the brainchild of Joe Berr..SEG manager at the time as a note to those interested...DeSoto had a sister truck of this design except that it used the 56 Plymouth rear fenders...it was a tad fancier is many aspects.. The Canadian plant built Dodge and Fargo Sweptside trucks in 1958. That DeSoto with 1956 Plymouth rear fenders was not a Detroit production. I remember seeing photos of that vehicle, but I cannot remember what country that DeSoto was located. Bill Vancouver, BC Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 It is listed and photo shown and mentions it was for export...that is all that was said of it the book I have on Dodge trucks. DeSoto fans may know more about it... Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Lee Exline has a site dealing with Desoto pickups, including present day trucks and big rigs made under DeSoto badging. MADE IN TURKEY and okayed by mother mopar. I googled dodge truck history and came up with Townwagon's site and it led me to Lee. Boy those pilothouse boys stay BUSY! Lots and lots of good reads, thank you fellas. Quote
Bodacious Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 as a note to those interested...DeSoto had a sister truck of this design except that it used the 56 Plymouth rear fenders...it was a tad fancier is many aspects.. I'd love to see one of those. Speaking of '56 Plymouths, I used to have a '56 Plaza business coupe the same color as the '55 in that eBay listing. I've always missed that car. I finally sold it to help finance a bad racing habit I had at the time. That '55 is going to make someone a great car. Quote
