using a modern remote oil filter plumbed inside a bypass canister?

Line sizes aside, mounting issues should not be too great to overcome. Just think of the canister as a stealth housing!

Newstalgia is not always a bad thing. Just a couple of adapters and some tubing, I'll bet it could be done.

Ain't broke don't fix it could use an update once in a while!

I'm sure it could be done. However, whats the point in doing it? The whole reason for converting to a screw on canister filter is so it doesn't spill oil all over when removed. To do that, you'd have to mount the original oil filter housing upside down. If you mounted it upright, it would defeat the purpose since the oil will leak out into the housing when the filter is removed.

I don't know upside down, mount the adapter at the very top of the canister,[inside] get your filter installed, very tight clearances would be my guess. Hook up the lines and go for it.

Maybe...haha hook the lines up first then the filter, and then figure out how to connect the lid?

Not as hard or messy in my opinion.

The original lines would still be going to the housing you know. You'll never know unless you try.

If you are attempting to look original and your car originally came with a throwaway sealed canister type oil filter, then there is a fellow that advertises that he makes a housing that looks original but opens up and takes a modern filter.

At the moment you can get a nearly lifetime supply of original sealed canister oil filters off of eBay for what he wants for his replacement housing. So I don't really see the point.

If your car came with a filter that takes a replacement element then, as Don makes clear, the elements are still available.

If your car came with a disposable canister and you are not going for show then you can put on a housing that takes replacement elements for a fairly low price and the elements are cheap enough and available at your local store.

If I had a choice as far as looks go, then I would chose(and did chose) a Beehive filter every time, looks good, lots of fins, shiney, etc, however it is a pain in the arse to renew, clean out etc.......ideal would be a spin on filter inside a Beehive canister with some sort of anti or no leak system.........andyd

Its about thinking outside the cannister so to speak, plenty of filters are available, it is just fun the envision a new produst or a wag.

Climb out into the sunshine and take a breath of fresh air, theres more than one way to finish one's car and it doesn't have to be your way just because that is what you prefer. There are many ways to interpet how the end product should look, let me have mine, and you can have yours.

PS Failure is not an option.

I have a stealth spin on filter inside a "beehive" canister on my '50. Mine is made by FlatAttack Racing, and uses a standard Ford spin on filter.

The top comes off the canister, and the filter spins on to the underside of the top. The lines attach to the canister, and the top seals to the canister with o-rings. Easy to change the filter, and no mess.

Here's a few pictures, hit re-load if they don't show:

O'Brien Truckers is also making a Hildebrandt canister filter that works the same way...

This mod has been done Frankie and is available for purchase if you want to shell out an exhorbent amount of money the man is aksing for the product..me thinks he is out of line but me also knows that the product is totally designed for the POC owner without any chance of being found out he has a spin on in place of his original cannister...so if you are truly going for points at the POC event..this may well be worth the added cost..but for to have a modern filter...much easier/less costly manner in which you can achieve this end....
