Back from the frame shop. While there someone in the neighborhood spotted the 48. He's got a 46 and some spare parts I might end up with.

Repaired frame horns. The pass side one was bent over about 90degrees.

The shop pulled the cowl back straight too.

Then I started bolting some parts back on. Winter is coming quick so I am just reassembling. Pretty work will have to come in the spring.

Looking good Ed. Can't wait to see my grille pieces on the front of the car. You going to go back with the black paint or are you going to break down and paint the whole car?

Posted

Car hibernates at the cabin 120 miles away. Will get it back together and then store it away. Probably still won't have enough $$ to paint the whole car either.

Posted

Too bad you don't live closer I'd be glad to give you a hand. After painting my 4 door a 2 door coupe should be easier. Any ideas on a color if you were going to paint it?

Ed, I am really pleased to see the progress on your car and know that you will have it back on the road, likely next year. Your car took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. Congratulations on not pulling the plug on the old girl.

As for paint colours I always have felt that dark colours look best on these old girls and really show the curves nicely. As we know, curves are nice! I see your firewall in burgundy....any thoughts on that for a colour?

Posted

My original paint plan was cruiser maroon. Thats what I painted the firewall and wheels. I've since been thinking a nice yellow would be nice.

Ed, this coupe was at a show in Shell Knob, MO we attended at the last of

September. That shade looks good on it. Not all yellows are created

equal in my opinion.

The older couple who owns this car said the color was original "Canary

Yellow". "I don't think so, Tim".....to quote an old tv show phrase.

But I didn't argue with them. Looks nice.

Ours is 1967 Ford "Springtime Yellow".

This one was at the Nashville Good Guys show a couple summers ago.

I think the Charlotte Ivory is not quite as yellow as these.....a bit more toward beige.

Good to see your repairs are coming along.

Bob I'll probably shell out the bucks for a quart of charlette ivory and spray something to see how it looks. Maybe a good use for the sedan trunk lid I've got laying around.

Since Charlotte Ivory is an old color.....from the 40s.....how are you going to match it? Do you have a color chip?? Just curious.

I think the only vehicles the Ivory came on was convertibles.....not sure

about wagons. The other exclusive color was Sumac Red---a dark red

color, but not quite maroon.

For the cruiser maroon I had made the store actually placed a call to PPG with the codes from my original paint chips and got a formula that way. It was what they called a close offset. Not 100% exactly the same formula. The ivory might be the same way. I know the ivory and red were convertible only. None of the basic colors strike me that much. POC judging guidelines say any color from the DPCD lineup for the model year is acceptable. Looks like Dodge had the same color also that wasnt convertible only.

That '48 coupe belongs to a gentleman I know down here in So. Il. He lives in a small town called Cobden and has several old mopars. That car is very nice and is a nice driver. He drives it a lot. He also has the light in the hood ornament. His is the first one I've seen up close that lights up. It has a V8 in it. Did you take that picture at Nashville Goodguys Bob?

Posted

Steve, if you're talking about the light blue coupe with the plate on the

front - yes, I saw it in Nashville at GoodGuys. Looks very nice.

The hood ornament light is pretty easy to do.

You just need a small socket with a way to attach it......and one wire

on the thing. Or, greg g made a light from an aftermarket side marker

light.

Good to see your car coming together. My Wagon is the same maroon (or close) as your firewall. I like it, but if I had my preference, I would probably go with one of the muted yellows you are looking at. I think the lighter colors look great on these. The Maroon was a factory color, if that makes any difference to you. You are gonna be lookin' at it and drivin' it, so do it the way you want. Half the fun is getting these things the way you want them in the first place.

I fully intend to stick to the factory colors just a matter of which one.

Its 6:30 as I right this. In about an hour I should be on the road to my parents cabin to store Spot for the winter. Didn't get a picture taken last night but I will get one this AM or at the cabin. Wish me luck

Ed, congratulations on getting your car back on the road so quickly. At the time of the accident you probably never thought you would be driving it again this soon, if ever. I guess these old girls can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!! You also are to be commended for not throwing in the towel. You got parts, had repairs done, and reassembled enough to drive. You are an inspiration and show what can be done when you put your mind to it.
