Dennis Hemingway Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 We are like you guys, we are out in the boondocks and all of our neighbors have been here for at least 25-40 years, so none of us have little kids around. We haven't had a trick or treater in years and I don't miss them at all. So like oldmopar, I get to eat the treats. Dennis:cool: Quote
buds truck Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 we always buy for a bunch of kids and always get few. sure doesn't help the diet....... LOL Bud Quote
Young Ed Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 We had a few but we missed the early ones waiting in line for a free booritto at chipotle. Oh well. And for a little halloween fun: Why couldnt the skeletons get pregnant? Quote
old woolie Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 The few we get here are family and they have to drive a few miles to get here. When I was a kid, myself and friends would walk the length of our road and back. More house's here now but not as many friendly neighbors. Quote
steveplym Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 We had a few but we missed the early ones waiting in line for a free booritto at chipotle. Oh well. And for a little halloween fun:Why couldnt the skeletons get pregnant? We had one show up unexpected as we live away from town as well. Glad I have kids as I wouldn't have any candy around. I give up Ed, why? Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I have a few really good neighbors, and a lot of strangers, all they do is live close by. People just are'nt folksy in town anymore. Steady on trick or treaters though, Esmey puts out a good basket of homemade candies and this year thanks to Tim, pumpkin roll for the adults, coffee if they want it! Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 We live in a small development of 14 homes......somewhat isolated.....just a few local kids come around every year. Quote
aero3113 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I would say we had about 25-30 kids come by today Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 I still haven't got my pumpkin roll...I mentioned it this evening though... I don't know the answer Ed...afraid to jump her bones? I do know why he did not cross the road.... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 The kids did there thing here last Sunday. The day time for the trick or treater's is always set by the city and is between 1 PM and 4 PM. We never know how many we are going to get. Four years ago we only bought 2 bags of the small candy bars, because the year before we only had about 5 or 6 kids. We then ran out about mid way. So........wife ran to the store for a couple more bags. The following year we bought 4 bags and ended up with 3 left over. Last year, we bought 4 bags and almost ran out. Only had about 2 or 3 bars left. So.........we bought 4 bags again (total 92 small candy bars). We only had about 35 kids come to the door, so have lots left over. We always buy what we like since we know we'll probably be stuck with it. Anyone for a Mr. Good Bar or a Peanut Butter Cup, we have lots. Now, keep in mind we are in a major city. But..........it was cold and windy last Sunday so I guess they didn't want to go out in the cold. Really wasn't all that cold though. Think it got up to about 45 degrees or so. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I don't know the answer to Ed's question, but I could think of a reason or two that isn't appropriate to print here. If you guys can't figure out Ed's question, here's another one. "How do you repair a hole in a pumpkin?" Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 well..the evening is over..and as usual..no kids again this year...we are so far removed in the country that walking like we did as kids is a no no..they are now members of the motorized division..and they hit the towns where a "haul" cam be pulled off with least effort...sure miss tricker treaters...sure hope you folks had a gang of kids come by... Tim, We haven't seen any "Trick or Treaters" and my place in about 3 years, we are in the country also, 5 miles from the nearest town, of about 10000 souls and 18 miles from a 750000 city. We took our 2 kids to the nearest town, only need to go down 1 long bay in a residential area , to get the 2 little ones loaded up with candy. It was a great night for Halloween, about 40 , yesterday it was 64 degrees here, that is warm for us northerners this time of the year. So Happy Halloween to you all................Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 The answer is because he had a halloweenie. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Good one Ed! I thought it was because he could'nt find his Viagra! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 We live in a subdivision......probably had around 30 or so stop by. Most, especially the little ones, had pretty cute costumes. I noticed the local police car drive down the street a couple times. A good thing.....maybe prevent any pranks, and also help make things safe for those out walking around. Tonight (Sat) Max and I are playing music for my Elks lodge halloween party. [yea, i know, its the day after]. I'm dressing as a Frenchman with a beret, etc......she's going to be some onion dip (like for chips n dip). So, between us, we will be "french onion dip". Last year, I was a highway worker and she was a giant orange safety cone. One year we were a picnic. We have more fun making up stuff like that - rather than buying an outfit. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Every year for the last 15 years I have been the scare crow from Dorothy land . Grandkids love it and local kids don't mind! Did you Know that Buddy Epsen was the original tinman, but the silver paint gave him a bad reaction! Love to hand out the goodies Quote
Captain Neon Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I've been at work all night, but the wife told me that we had 9. The PO told me that they usu. didn't get any. I've got an open almost full bag of Snickers waiting for me. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I trick or treated way past my time. In Washington DC we would do it almost til 1:00 and there would still be folks with the light on. This is in the early 70's. I remember one German couple that gave nothing but cup cakes and pie. I later learned that they owned the bakery on Penn av. We had so many caftman and Bus. folks that lived in the community than, It was a different time and trust was not an issue. The one thing I remember is we would have about three bags(grocery bags) of candy, it was like money as kids would trade toys and cards, even records. I would separate the choc. from the hard candy. Man I miss that:p In the mordern era we have what you call a Holloween party that the kids get a prepared bag of candy and they get cake and ice cream. There is music and all with costums. I was invited to the catacomes where Edgar allan Poe was buried but chickend out. I ain't scard just don't want my hair to get messed up. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 The answer is because he had a halloweenie. I wore my usual halloween costume again this year. A pair of roller skates. Nothing else but a pair of roller skates. ................. I went as a pull toy:D Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 that image explains why you no longer see these style toys on the market... Quote
james curl Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I live in a town of 50,000 people, most in the suburbs. Old town is about 20 square blocks of old homes. Only three houses on my three block area had their porch light on so many people would not walk the three blocks out of their way to main street where about six blocks of old homes are all decorated in Halloween theme and the people gather on their front porches or down both sides of their sidewalk and have a party and pass out the candy to the kids. I had about thirty-five kids come by the house and we had a party on our front porch during the time, until 10:00. Quote
Normspeed Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Could be worse Tim, I could have shown up at your door, see photo. We went to the local club, called Hat Creek, for a Halloween party. Stayed til the wee hours. 4 of us went as the Munsters...Herman, Lily, Eddie and Grandpa. Guess who I was? We ended up winning the costume contest which turned out to be kind of a dance contest too. Had to put on some of my James Brown moves. Not sure how or where the night ended but I hope that green stuff washes off... Quote
