Hopefully you are talking -0 in celcius. So Cal should be like Socal is all the time, unless of course they are having fires, mudslides, Sata Anna winds, earthquakes, or unchecked waves of illeagle immigrants.

Yup, I was talking celsius. Although during the winter -0 F and below is not that bad here. Let's see, it was -3 C this morning and that converts to 27 F

greg, I really hope not all that you mentioned happens during our stay:D

.........I just buy a jar of the Hormel ready made chile for myself.

[/ QUOTE]

Norm;

I am talking real home made chili. Not that Hormel crap. If that was the only thing available I would not like chili.

Hamburger' date=' sausage, tomato juice, kidney beans, whole stewed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, hot peppers, hot sauce, some like onions but I dont, a bit of chili seasoning, and a bit of what ever looks good from the spice shelf.

Add crackers and shreaded cheese to the bowl and chow down.

I would rather eat Pablem than that Hormel crap.[/quote']

Don,

In the winter the wife makes her own basically as you mentioned, except we don't like hot peppers. We also buy the chile beans that already has the seasoning in it. Don't use any tomato juice, just chopped stewed tomato's from the can and what ever juice is in there. Then we add the chopped onion and some chopped celery to it. I also don't want any cheese in my chile, but the wife adds it to hers. Only time I buy the ready made Hormel is in the summer when she doesn't want to eat or make chile. I guess I could make a pot myself, but then I'd be eating chile all week, so just buy the ready made.

That said, have you ever tried the Homel chile, or the other brands in a can? They are not bad. I'll bet you'll say you don't like Hormel Spam either. However that's great sliced and fried for sandwiches or to replace bacon or sausage for breakfast with eggs.:)

Now, for chile toppings like the cheese and use of crackers. Have you ever tried using Frito's on top of your chile in place of the crackers. That's also good.:)

Ready made stuff isn't bad, and it's a lot less mess to cook and faster. Plus it saves the wife work. Two ready made/cooked things we eat on a regular basis it bacon and Dean's sausage patties. Both come in a package that is frozen and precooked. Just pop the bacon in for about 3 to 5 seconds (depending on number of slices) in the microwave and it's done. Sausage only takes 62 seconds for two patties and and about 90 seconds for about 4 patties. Cost is really cheaper for the precooked sausage over the roll of sausage you have to fully cook. That's considering you can only keep that roll a day or two uncooked in the fridge, so if you don't eat it right away, you have to throw it out. With the precooked frozen sausage you can keep it for a couple of months if you want after it's opened. There are 30 patties in a resealable plastic bag.

And here I thought you lived in the fast lane all this time, but sounds like you are still living in the slow lane.:D

Goodness!!!! That's quite-a bit-a snow.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I vaguely thought

he might want to discuss the white hair that some of us

now have.

But, no, I discovered were were into the weather thing with a side

order of food talk.

Hope we don't get any more ice storms this winter.....we had two in the

past year (one at the first, and one at the last).

We will call it about 15". Was probably more.

Will spend the afternoon with the snowblower.

Should warm some the next few days and this mess needs to be moved some first.

Main roads are clear.

Power out for about 5 hours.

Shel;

Now I clearly remember why I left Buffalo, New York and moved to California in late October, 1993. It hurts to look at your pictures. What will November bring?

I left Buflo in January of 1970 for Florida. Been back one time during the winter, and there was a blizzard. Sure glad I made that move.

Greg, In reply to downspout post, used to have local kid clean my gutters for 20 and some of Esmey's homemade pork tamales. But one time he must have had more pressing things to do and just hosed every thing into the down spouts![springtime]

Well the maple spinners got stuck in there and before you could believe it there were little trees growing in there. Split all 4 before I noticed lack of drainage!

2 words"Gutter helmet" It works well and no more ladders.

Oh, sorry, no snow in Omaha just a hard freeze.
