Frank Elder Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 We've had the antenna and pillar switch discussion, so we might as well delve into the night! Fog lites....Factory or dealer installed option? If factory where is the standard placement for the switch? Dealer installed, how many different placements have you found? Frankie Quote
greg g Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 I have a set that my Dad had way back when on his 37 chevy. I found ther there was a hole at the left end of the dashboard under the lip that takes a push pull toggle nicely. I believe that the original one were dealer installed and most of the MoPaR logo'ed ones were made by Unity. they had a rotary switch that, clamped unto the lip of the lower dasboard. Like those uiversal rotary heater switches that are on e bay all the time. Quote
kevinanderson Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Yup, a switch mounted in a bracket that thumb screwed to the bottom of the dash. I took a control panel from the lower dash of a '48 Dodge truck and bolted it to the bottom of the heater/defroster bezel. Gave me a few extra holes to mount things in without drilling. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 I'm not sure why they used those rotary switches with fog lights. Haven't tried my switch.......does it just click once for on or off? Or, does it have a rheostat like a heater switch? Could you make the foglights be dimmer or brighter? Is it a pilot light to indicate the fogs are turned on? Otherwise, if just on/off it seems any toggle switch would work. Just a matter of where to put it. Quote
greg g Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 I think the style was the deal here. I believe it was a rotory on/off not a dimmer. Quote
claybill Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 my foglight switch has a light in it. rotary, makes sense. also....my dad was a ford salesman , new and used, in 1951-65. back then even whitewall tires were a dealer add on. i remember spotlights were real common additions..they were $6. ! white walls were $3 each extra. if yu paid by te month for 2 years..it was an extra dollar a month..! some folks couldnt even handle that, my dad used to throw it in for free from his %. we never made much money!!! heaters were extra, but in penna. they all came with heaters. i used to deliver cars for the dealership..one night in west virginia i crashed into a ditch about midnite......i saw a bar open down the copuntry road, and there was strange music playing on the juke box as I went in for help...no one was ther but bartender, he was nice and etc etc..we looked at the record.(music). it had masking tape with e.presley, heartbreak hotel!! on masking tape with a pen!!!damn bill Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Here's what I use for my fog lights and these lights did come stock. The green little lights are my directional lights as my old stock directional signal one did not work. Easy to install and only cost around $15.00 or so. Jon Quote
