1947PLEVY Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Morning gents: Hope everyone slept well and are refreshed. I am in search of an old Tennessee license plate a 1947. It's shaped like the state. Maybe someone could find one in a swap meet at a reasonable price for me, or someone might have one (Hey Don C..).. Please keep your eye out for me. Thank You and God Bless Us All. Have a wonderful day. John 47Plevy I found a 46, but my car is a 47 and rather go with a 47.. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 You can find them on the bay sometimes. I found my matched pair at the spring swap meet in Smashville about 4 years ago Quote
wldavis3 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 John, Usually, on ebay, those Tennessee state shaped plates are pretty high (dollar-wise). It would probably be easier on your bank account if you could find one at a car show or from someone locally. Quote
Dennis_MN Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I was able to find a set of plates for my Pickup but they were from a car and when I went down to register them, I found that Minnesota reused the number series on collector plates so I couldn't use the plates that I purchased. Later, I found a set of plates for a truck with a T in it and that was the key to make that number series unique and I was able to register them as my offical plates for my pickup. 1947PLEVY Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 Well: I went ahead and bought a 46 tenn tag today. Pretty good shape. I'll go to the flea market and see if I can't do a little trading for a 47 tag. I've already been offered twice of what I paid for the 46, not cheap either. Take Care and God Bless us All..John 47Plevy Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 John; Yesterday at the Lynchburg show I parked next to the President of the Stones River Region AACA. The topic of antique tags came up and he told me someone had recently donated a 47 tag to the club museum. However when the donator delivered the tag it was about 50% rusted away. Hardley worth hanging on the wall at the clubhouse. If you keep looking something will turn up. If you can find a matched pair that is the way to go. Pictured below is there clubhouse. Quote
1947PLEVY Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 Don; If I did find a matching pair, do you think the DMV would let me register them to my car? Really I was only wanting one for the front. And have a personalized one on the back.. The early bird gets the worm... Good morning. I hear the roosters crowing. Take Care and God Bless.. Don Coatney Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Yes you can register your YOM tags. I have done so. Quote
1947PLEVY Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 Thanks Don; That's great news. Any red tape to go through tho? I hope not. Take Care and God Bless... John 47Plevy Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Just tell the clerk about State Law 55-4-111 as it is doubtful she or he will know about it. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Whatever you decide on I would not recommend using Mr. Russell from Hemmings, he has everything, but thinks it is made of gold. He would not stop leaving messages or sending materiel even after I declined to buy ONE PLATE AND METAL TAG from him. He only wanted $300.00! Swap meets are more fun and the seller usually has good connections with a competent restorer. Have a wonderful Sunday, FRANKIE47 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 That Donis what we have here in Georgia also..Ihave a 54 tag confirmed tothe club coupe and a 66 tag confirmed tothe Tiger..I have all my other YOM tags for if and when the other cars come online... Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 What I am really curious about is weather my 1948 tags would appear if the fuzz does a puter search for that number. I have my doubts. The only way that number could be in there system is if the clerk at the DMV keyed it in. She did not do so while I was there. Nor did they run a numbers check on my 1948 tags. I dont even know if the clerk kept a copy of the letter posted above. I have the original signed by the clerk and I did not see a copy in her hand when she gave me the original. I have carried a copy with me for annual renewal but they have told me it is not necessary. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 In Nebraska that yom plate is the only plate you are required to display once you have registered it. It also is the last plate you will ever have on that car. Like buying an antique plate from the state. Frankie Quote

Ed Griffin Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 You may try going to a local antique shop and pick up one of those shopper papers for all the antique stores in the surrounding areas. I made a few calls and found mine that way. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 In Alberta, Canada, you can register your YOM plates to your car and are provided with a registration certificate to go with the car. They also issue you a modern collector plate (only the rear plate is required here as of about 15 years ago) which you are expected to keep in the car. You never have to pay the annual renewal after that. Alberta plates from 1937 to I think 1951 are confusing as the year on them really shows the renewal date. For example, the one on my '48 Coupe reads Ex 31.3.49 (Expires 31 of March, 1949). This causes a lot of confusion with people who call my car a '49 or tell me I have the wrong year plate. Also confusing for us is a lot of people and businesses use the day first and then the month as in the UK while others have the month first and then the day as in the US. Therefore a date like 06/07/02 could either be July 6 or June 7, 2002. Just like our spelling up here, we ofen have two ways to spell words. Centre and center for example. Quote
