tankwilson Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I need to know what carb my 50 dodge coronet with the gyromatic trans has. Also what do the electrical connections on the carb do. Can i replace these parts. Got her running today but won't start without dumping gas down the carb and holding the pedal to the floor. Definately need a carb kit and maybe other parts. any and all info on this carb and parts is greatly appericated. Quote
tankwilson Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Thanks just wanted to make sure the number before ordering the carb kit. I don't think the choke is working. Also there are a couple of other pieces on the carb that have wiring going to them. How do i test them or can i replace them? What are they and what do they do?? Thanks Quote
tankwilson Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Fax would be great. I'm not sure my fax number at work but will find out. Any pics and procedures would be great. Thanks matt Can i test these parts? Quote
tankwilson Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 I have a carter carb that was on my 49 plymouth. Can i use this or do i have to have the one that is on it for the engine to work with the trans??? Quote
tankwilson Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 So it has nothing to do with initial startup or idle? Does the other part??? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 That round unit sitting on the manifold is a Sisson Choke....in case no one has mentioned that before. Seem to be on Dodges but not on Plymouths, far as I can tell. They have been appearing regularly on epay lately. I see by the firewall the car was dark green before getting it's current paint job. Young Ed Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Bob they were on later plymouths. Dodge just got them first. I think Plymouth got them starting with second series 49s. Quote
brian hood Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Just a thought, but are you sure your gas is good? If it's been in there a while, it wont run or start well without help. I drained my tank and discovered how dark my fuel in the tank really was. It was about 1.5 yrs old. Good luck! Quote
Alexander Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 A quick questhion which may apply to this thread. I am about to switch from a M6 gyromatic to a 3 speed manual transmission. I currently have a BXVES-3 carburator with dash pot and all. will it be neccsary to change my carburator to accomotdate the 3 speed manual? Thanks Quote
Young Ed Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I would thing not necessary but you will have additional stuff on there that is not needed. You will still have the fluid drive right? Quote
Alexander Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Ill still have the fluid drive and plan to keep it. I thought perhaps the carb that was in the car now was tuned and or confugured exclusivly for a gyromatic. Perhaps not. Thanks! Quote
Phil Martin Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I found out if yuo bump the idle up the speed at which it will shift also goes up. Quote
PatS.... Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 As for the wires on the carb for the M6 transmission, here is the wiring diagram. The Imperial Club has some booklets online for troubleshooting etc in their "Repairs" section. Top with black cover is "Interrupter Switch" Bottom left with 2 wires is the solenoid. Bottom right with 4 screws is the governor. Unscrew the governor from the transmission, take the 4 screws out and clean it out with brake cleaner...it will be like new. Make sure the wires are good and the connections clean. Quote
