tankwilson Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Fairly solid 50 Dodge. Gonna fixer her up a bit and drive. Came with oringal owners manual, and other mopar books. Interior is good condtion. She runs but needs a tune up. Also looking for side trim. Will a 49 plymouth carb work on this? Quote
48mirage Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Shel is right the Dodges use the Stromberg for the dashpot. If you have the gyromatic there is also a solenoid on the carb BXVES-3. If just the fluid drive BXVD-3. I built an adaptor and used a Holley 94 from a '56 Ford with Automatic transmission. I had a '54 Plymouth exhaust intake to make use of the heated choke tube. I believe electric chokes were available. http://s262.photobucket.com/albums/ii86/jacobsheir/?action=view¤t=Holley94.jpg Quote
tankwilson Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 It has the gyro-matic trans. Are they any good??? I think i just need to do good tune up, change the oil, and put in some new gas. Here is a pic of the engine bay. Anymore info would be greatly apperciated. Quote
48mirage Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 They have their place in the world. Some people liked them. They are unique in the way they work. Definetely get her tuned up. It doesn't look like it has been touched under the hood in quite awhile. Let us know how it goes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presto-Matic Quote
Phil Martin Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I have one like it. Wish my grill and bumpers looked as good as yours. Runs and drives really great. I like the gyromatic myself. These have 230 engine and pull good. Quote
tankwilson Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 I have read the book but can anyone tell me in real world words how to drive the car with the gyro? Thanks Quote
Phil Martin Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Use clutch to put in gear shifter up is power gear down is road gear. Put down and atke off about 20mph let gas all the way off. You will hear a click when it shifts to high. When stopping don't use clutch it will shift down then go again like before. Quote
