Norm's Coupe Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) ......... Edited September 23, 2009 by Norm's Coupe Quote
greg g Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Hey Norm you are partially correct. I have about a half dozen trade axes that my father collected over the years. Having them in a storage box in the basement does not diminish their Axeness on little bit. However your quote uses "ITEMS" as part of the definition implying more than one item comprises a collection. I believe one item only makes you an enthusiat or "interested party" So even though the state say it is a collectable item, having only one, does not qualify you as per the definition above. So I don't believe you have established your point...the debate continues. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 So Norm as you have now claimed collector status to include your Lumina van I must assume you will be purchasing "collector" tags and "collector" insurance for the van. This will of course then limit your Lumina driving to exclude the winter months and drive only to and from car related activities. Looks like you will now have two vehicles that rarely cross the threshold that seperates the driveway from the street:rolleyes: Let us know if the state will issue collector tags for your van and if you can purchase collector insurance for it? greg g Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Ok so you qualify as a collector of collector plates... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 he is a collector..just not very good at it as he has only the one... Quote
Allan Faust Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Norm, If my latest driveway joke offended, I apologize... it is never my intention to do so.... that being said... since you've had your car, you have had the chance to drive your car a lot, and I can't even get out of my driveway..... (and if you can find something to chide me with... like undercoatney , or something else) go right ahead... I expect the same in return..... As for the information you offer on this site, its always been a help..... Allan Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Norm..be careful..you be running wide open and quickly approaching the end of your chain...you are being had... Quote
greg g Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Axles???? I don't recall saying anything about axles. Quote
eric wissing Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Collector Plates? Like china with painted scenes from "Gone With The Wind" on them , limited edition ( only 500,000). State Birds, Calendars, Star Wars. I think the list is endless. Eric Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Norm...sorry to hear you pump went south..I will readly admit my guilt in hazing you though...I have spent a lot of time tonight chasing parts for my wagon from every end of the shop and overhead..found that I have need for a couple items yet..the one box was in my face all evening but I was looking for a larger box.. Don Coatney Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Again' date=' I quote Don's favorite web site. .[/quote'] Norm; My favorite web site is not the one you are quoting from. But it will have to do as it would not be nice to post porn quotations here on this site. I can't even drive it out of the garage right now if I wanted to Norm; I would not do this for everybody but if you want to push your car down to the end of the driveway and back I will give you credit for another driveway trip. We can call it a dry run trip. If you check with Tim I think he will also give you credit for a dry run trip. Quote
CNP934DC Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I was really enjoying this thread until I read "sell my coupe" and get an El Camino. Norm, if you do that you'd still be available for MOPAR mentoring, I hope. Most of these guys would miss you even if they wouldn't admit it. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I was really enjoying this thread until I read "sell my coupe" and get an El Camino. Norm, if you do that you'd still be available for MOPAR mentoring, I hope. Most of these guys would miss you even if they wouldn't admit it. Fear not as I really dont think Norm will bail out on us. He has been talking about selling his coupe for years but nobody will buy it as he is asking way too much for it;) And he will never find a replacement vehicle at the price he wants to pay. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Who's going to buy a car that won't go more then 50 miles from home? Quote
dirty dan Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 In Louisiana we can buy an "Antique" tag. If you get a personalized antique tag it's a lifetime license plate for @ $60.00. Now all I have to do is think of a cool tag using 7 letters. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Norm I don't need another coupe. I've already got one that is quite road worthy. Of course in a few years mine might be getting up there in miles and be in need of replacement Quote
Young Ed Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Well my car made it 76K miles on the first engine. I've got 70k more before this engine reaches that point which is about 30 years of driving for me. By then I will most likely have moved on to another car. Maybe an el camino (59-60 only though) Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Norm; Good luck in the sale of your high priced coupe. I really would like to see you get thirteen grand for it. Cause then I could sell my driver for twenty grand. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 .I'll keep it till it rots if I can't get what I'm asking. Hate to see your coupe rot but good luck. Quote
Andydodge Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 A Collector?.........nah both the 40 Dodge Sedan & the 41 Plymouth Coupe are hotrods.......thats what I'd rather be......a hot rodder........or.......A LUMBERJACK........dah dah.......I'm a lumberjack & I'm o/k, sleep all night and I work all day........He's a lumberjack and ........ I wish I was a girlie just like my dear papa..........oops........wrong post......lol...........andyd........just don't call me a collector.... Quote
Howard Tarnoff Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Ed' date=' never hurts to have a spare as a back up.[/quote']Then he would be a collector with two. Quote
Howard Tarnoff Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Don' date='I didn't set the price. NADA did. [/quote'] I have been buying and selling collector cars for years, I have one on eBay right now. IMHO NADA only sets the value for two audiences: banks and lawyers. The bank for the unusual cat who actually takes out a loan to buy a collector car and the lawyer who will try to set the value to settle your estate. The actual value of any collector car or non collector car is the cash that is put on the table from a qualified buyer. So right now the hot rod I have online, and all steel 37 Ford Cabriolet with a rumble seat and all the right stuff is $32,000 has a price value of just over $32,000. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220266835230&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=012 Will I sell it for that, no, but if I needed to sell it the price is what the market will bring at any particular time. Not preaching, just one old guys opinion. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Norm I must disagree that it won't cost you anything to keep your car. In order to keep it at its current value you need to continue driving it and doing the maintenence on it. Otherwise it will slip into ran when parked status and we all know how well those sell. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Norm the cars on the lots do get things wrong with them. The used car dealers call it lot rot. Must happen fairly often if they have a term for it. Quote
Don Jordan Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Norm: quick question You were talking about Ford stock for $28... I once bought a stock Ford for $28. Probably not the same. And along the collector thread - I'm sure I have a handle on "collector" but what is a "buff"? Are there steps or a test? I was accused of being a 'car buff.' Is this getting too esoteric? Quote
