  1. I have a 1951 B3B undergoing a full frame off original restoration. Does anyone know of a structural diagram that shows types and dimensions of all the correct structural members that comprise the bed? I need to find out how the bed sides, bed front panel, bed wood, and all underlying structural members were bolted (or welded) together. I also want to find out what the exact dimensions of the underlying structural cross members and sides members were that hold the floor boards, side panels, and front panel together into one unit. I guess I'm the kind of guy who likes originality and doesn't like to slap things together because it's cheap or easy.
  2. I'm fixing to start on the bed for my 49. I didn't remove it so I'm was wondering were the actual bed bolts back down? I have figured out the bed rails, order etc. I just need to know how and were it is attached?{ Maybe pictures} Also need to find new axle jam nuts? Thanks Dave

    Marking Time

My daughter and I were able to spend some time together this week to work on the bed - recently removed from the frame. Honestly, we were only going to stain the bottom. Guess we both got carried away. Should be back together this weekend.
  4. From the album: Bed Build

Well, at least the wood is protected. And we were able to unload a ton of scale, rust and one hornets nest. It still has lots of issues, but that's for another day.

  5. From the album: Bed Build

After cleaning the scale, adding rust prevention and giving the wood reshaping with a plane, one shot of Expresson stain and three coats of spar urathane.

  6. From the album: Bed Build

After the first coat of outdoor semi-gloss Spar Urethane. Will eventually have three.

  7. From the album: Bed Build

End results of the rust removal. Also straightened a couple of small areas.

  8. From the album: Bed Build

Meanwhile, I worked on getting some of the cupping out while my daughter applied her favorite stain - expresso.

  9. From the album: Bed Build

I spent half a day with a air-powered metal brush taking down all the scale. We then put on three coats of Rustoleum's Rust Reformer.

  10. From the album: Bed Build

I'm glad we did take the wood out. It exposed large areas that were never worked on, or painted right over the rust.

  11. From the album: Bed Build

We were a bit surprised to find that the underside of the wood was not even stained. Explains why the boards were all cupped.

  12. I am working replacing the bed on my 1953 Dodge B4C. From what I can tell this bed configuration is different from most of the other years. I am looking for any information anyone might have regard the dimensions of the wood and how the outer pieces are cut and installed. It appears that the two outer piece have a curve which would need to be cut with a Jig saw. I have the bolt Kit and I just want to make sure that I have the correct information before I start cutting and drilling the wood. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!
