We have a 2019 4th gen RAM Classic, with the R1234yf system. It stopped working last Summer, and I purchased the special hose and a can of the stuff, but it wouldn't take it at all. So I figure the compressor is shelled out.
I have not had good experience with having auto A/C systems repaired. Had a 98 Neon years back, and when it went out, I took it to what I thought was a reputable shop - one that has been in business here for a long time, like two generations of father-son ownership. The A/C quit working again not even a year later. All of the auto shops around here advertise that they do this type of service, so how can I tell which ones really know what they are doing, and do it so that it will last? Would you all only consider the dealership for this? What kind of warranty should I expect?
(If it didn't have A/C built-in, I suspect that an entirely new after-market system would be cheaper than fixing the factory one. I don't feel a great need for A/C myself, but my wife insists that it be fixed, so that it works when we go camping this coming month.)
