  1. I'm getting ready to hit the big buy button. I been around for a long time and did many searches for master cylinders and disc brakes, but I haven't seen this combination. Does anyone have the ECI master cylinder set-up with a scraebird disc kit? I've been contemplating this set-up for a long time and was hoping that someone has already done this.
  2. I know that some of you have used an ECI master cylinder as part of a disc brake upgrade. I do not want to install discs, but I am interested in having the security of a dual reservoir master cylinder. Has anyone done this install? ECI advertises that their bracket will bolt to the original master cylinder location, will it be necessary to cut the floor for access to fill it? Anything I should watch out for? ECI advertises it will work with standard shift, has anyone had experience with their bracket using the stock brake and clutch pedals? Thanks!
  3. I have no experience with rear discs (converted to Bendix self adjusting style) but I used the ECI master cylinder mount with an adapter and brake booster. I was very happy with the quality of the kit. I might have missed it, but I would recommend a Wilwood combination valve. I have changed out too many leaking combination valves from other brands.
  4. I am in the process of converting my 1950 Plymouth coupe over to 4 wheel disc brakes. I have the Scarebird kit up front and a 8.8 with discs in the back. I want to use the ECI master cylinder mount under the floor because it uses the factory pedals and mounts in the factory location. Who has used this bracket without power brakes with 4-wheel disc brakes and what master cylinder did you use? Can you use a manual master cylinder with disc brakes or does it have to have a power booster. Thanks, Brad
  5. of the three brands commonly discussed here, scarebird, ECI ,and rusty hope, rusty hope is the only one that would say for sure their kit would work on the stock 15" wheels on my 51 Cranbrook. The other two stated minimum 16". I used the rustyhope kit and have had no issues with operation. I should also state I used an ECI kit for the master cylinder as rusty hope did not offer a dual reservoir master cylinder kit. in choosing the ECI master cylinder kit they were very helpful in telling me which master cylinder to use based on the calipers and the original rear drum wheel cylinder combination.
  6. How do I find the thread or contact Marty or Don on how they modified a eci master cyl for a 47 d24 Thanks
  7. I used the Rusty Hope disc conversion and the ECI master cylinder kit on my '41 P12. I don't have a booster on mine, and honestly I really don't think one is needed. The pedal feel is firm but not overly hard. You don't have to stand on it to get a good braking response. I don't think there is enough room to fit a booster without major frame modifications and I did not want to mount the booster and master on the firewall.
  8. I was referring to the ECI master cylinder swap. https://p15-d24.com/search/?q="ECI master cylinder"&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and As for a booster with discs, I don't use them when I convert.
  9. Originally, I was thinking the ECI master cylinder, $425 convinced me otherwise. Then I thinking a GM style master cylinder mounted behind the original MC, then I remembered some had were still using Original MC. Alittle warmer and I'll be ready for my Scarebird Disc conversion to match up with my 2000 Cherokee rear axle. Thanks for the response so now I have a couple of questions: After looking at the manual after removing the valve, did you use somthing else for the sping to ride on? I don't know if this is relevent or not, are you using this setup on the car with hemi or a car with l6?
  10. I have a ECI master cylinder and bracket. My disc kit was bought through someone here...the name escapes me currently....wasn’t scarebird.
  11. I have a 51' Wayfarer and and having problems installing the ECI Master Cylinder Kit. The master cylinder is bolted to the frame, and sits on the crossmember. So, the replacement bracket must fit between the floor and the crossmember. There is about 3 3/4 inches of clearance. I ordered what I thought was the correct one, got it, and it would not fit, it was to tall. I called them back and exchanged it for one they thought would fit besed on my description. I got it yesterday and it does not fit either, still to tall. I am begining to think the Wayfarer model must be different than the other full size Dodges of the same year. Can anyone help? Has anyone used this on a Wayfarer, or can anyone give me hints? I originally had the PN EC444 bracket, and now have the EC442. PLease help!!!!
  12. I used the Rusty Hope kit on my '41 for the front disc set up. . I know some have had issues with the ECI master cylinder kit but my experience was straight forward and quite easy. The brakes work perfectly.
  13. I just got an ECI master cylinder conversion kit for my 54. Unfortunately, the setup does not work with the Powerflite. The crossmember interferes. I am waiting on a call from their engineer to see if they have anything that will fit. If not, and they will not accept a return, I will probably have a 49-54 conversion kit for sale to recoup some of my cost. Does anyone else on the forum have a powerflite and a dual m/c conversion?
  14. I’m currently doing my front disc brake set using a scarebird kit with a ECI master cylinder bracket kit , bolts in the same location as the original master cylinder on the floor , I’m retaining my stock rear drum setup with the upgraded disc front ,when I called to order they were very helpful to be sure to send me the correct master cylinder. I would contact them to see if they have something for you PU. http://ecihotrodbrakes.com/chrysler_master_assemblies.html
  15. Awhile back there was a picture of An ECI Master Cylinder Kit for a P15 and possibly other eras of the same design. I did a search and even tried Photobucket to no avail. Can anyone help me find this link Thanks Skip
  16. Busycoupe, As one of the people who was active in Don's megathread on the ECI master cylinder mount, I can say that the kit I received could have been used as is, if I was willing to accept (1) the horrible side-to-side clearance on the shaft, (2) the lack of either pedal stop, and (3) the requirement to drill additional holes in the frame rail because they didn't bother trying to line the holes on the bracket up with existing holes. I just chose not to. Marty
  17. He posted that he used the ECI master cylinder kit and mounting brackets. I also used the ECI master cylinder and bracket kit on my 49 Wayfarer along with the remote fill kit. http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/chrysler_master_assemblies.html
  18. Granted, my car is a little newer (1954), but I used the Scarebird kit on the front and am running 15 inch wheels. Same thing, uses parts available at any store. I used the ECI master cylinder kit and am very happy. Speedway sells an adapter for a power booster, so I am running a dual diaphragm 7 inch booster with my kit.
  19. If you spend some time searching you will find a rather extensive thread that dealt with this issue. Briefly, Don Coatney had the same setup you are talking about, and ECI recommended a smaller master cylinder than the one that I used with my ECI front brakes. There is also a lot of details of what it takes to make an ECI master cylinder mount work right. Marty
  20. Pictures of the ECI master cylinder set up on my P15. That is if my first try at uploading pictures works.
  21. Well, I just finished re-engineering my ECI master cylinder kit. As Don had noted, there were 3 issues: 1. there was way too much freeplay when the pedals were installed per directions 2. there were no stops for either pedal 3. the bolt pattern didn't match the original master cylinder where it bolted to the frame in the first picture you can kind of see where I had a section of steel plate added and an additional hole drilled (upper left in the photo) to correspond with the third bolt hole on the master cylinder. In the second picture you can see the rather beefy stops that I added for both pedals, and you can sort of see the spacers I used. I took 4 of the spacers that Don had found at McMaster-Carr and made them work. I used one on the clutch side, another in between the brake pedal and the lever adapter for the master cylinder (which required custom filing on the OEM brake lever where it connects to lever adapter), and two on the right end of the brake pedal shaft. I wound up with virtually zero freeplay on the clutch side and less than 0.015" on the brake side, instead of the over 0.100" on both sides that I started with. I also moved the brake pedal marginally closer to the stock location. Overall a successful venture, although one that shouldn't have been necessary. Hopefully this weekend I can get everything painted and installed so I can finish plumbing the brake system. Marty
  22. I pulled the floorboard out of my 47 while working on installing my ECI master cylinder conversion. One of Don's photos caught my eye, so I started looking closely at my car and my parts books. Imagine my surprise when I figured out that not only doesn't my car have the return spring on the brake pedal, but I'm also missing the one on the clutch throwout arm! I'm guessing that the over-center spring on the clutch system has been keeping the pressure off of the throwout bearing, and the spring that is in the stock master cylinder has been returning the brake pedal, but I'd like to get all of the right parts anyway. It's difficult to tell what's missing, since the parts book shows them in isolation instead of connected. From Don's photos I know I am missing the eyelet that is on the master cylinder pin, the spring itself, and whatever the spring connects to. From my parts book I am apparently missing the clutch lever spring and the bracket that it connects to. Does anyone have a parts car that has all of this stuff that I could buy? While I'm sure that I could cobble something up, I'd rather not. Marty
  23. Mark; Whos kit did you buy? Today I am working on installing a ECI master cylinder in my P-15. I will be facing the same problem. Thanks for the good idea.
  24. Well got the car done and drove her home from the shop ive been working in all winter. Everything went well. I do have a question for you guys with disc brakes. I went with the ECI master cylinder kit and put in all the residual and metering valves. I have a very firm brake pedal but it doesnt stop as good as i think it should. Almost seems like the fronts aren't kicking in to there full potential. Any ideas? Shouldn't i be able to lock them up especially with bias plys? Thanks matt
  25. Ok guys. Got all the brakes lines done today. Need to order 1 fitting and then ready. Here is a link to all the pics of what i have done so far with this entire project. http://community.webshots.com/album/575446914lnEDKv Here are some pics of today. Brake line routing Nother Residual valve welded to front crossmember. This is probably best shot of what the entire project looks like when done. Shock mount/brake line mount. ECI Master cylinder So looks like once i get my fitting I will be ready to bleed brakes and get her back on the road. Oh yea better fix that really big hole in my floor too. Will probably be a few weeks till i get her done. Will keep ya posted and write up a big recap on what all i have done and what was involved.
