  1. All great info here, thank you! I too share the concern that another hinge, once chromed...may have similar issues...but may have to try... After looking on-line, I have found that some cars of this vintage do have reproduction hinges available. I'd be thrilled to have an idea of what might fit...
  2. Thanks Rich...I'll be in touch!
  3. I've found quite a few helpful answers on this forum...but this issue has eluded me. We're working on a 1939 P8 coupe, that has a chrome strip that runs from the radiator shell to the cowling. The hood halves are supposed to slide into this strip. The strip I have isn't 100% straight and the (what I'll call the ) trough isn't perfectly formed. I can only imagine this occurred during the rechroming process. Needless to say, the hood halves cannot thread into the strip. From some phone calls and research on-line, there are no aftermarket replacements or reproductions. I can find another used part, but am concerned that the rechroming process will cause the strip to be overfilled when chromed and unable to have the hood pieces installed. I would be grateful for any thoughts on how to get a functioning hood hinge.
  4. Thanks Robin! As a bit of a follow-up...I've figured out the switch. Once I get the cylinders in-hand, I figure the rest will make more sense. In the parts that were removed, there is one "T" that I understand goes in the back of the car to split the vacuum coming from the switch. My assumption is that there should be another similar set up for the "return" line?
  5. Thanks for that...I did find that in a search. I got a bit more info from the owner over the weekend. I think I've figured out the switch... I still would like to see the correct way to run/route the lines..at least under the hood. Some of the lines inside the body are obvious thanks to clips on the car. Most of the lines will not be visible once installed...
  6. Hello again all! Trying to find a picture or diagram as to how the convertible top vacuum lines are run on the '39 convertible coupe. I know they start at the intake, go to a dash switch...then in the door jamb to the back of the car. First....is it a hard line the entire way? Or, is here some hose involved? (I assume that there would be metal line from the manifold to almost the firewall...then rubber to take the vibration.) I am told that at least where it connects to the rear of the switch that there are short rubber hoses to connect the lines to the nipples on the switch. To that end...there are 3 nipples on the switch...and one threaded hole... I'd be glad for any advice that can help do this correctly...thanks!
  7. Thanks to you both! This car still has the original headlight set up and the owner is trying to do as correct as possible restoration. desoto1939...we are aquainted. It's Matt from the Mopar Club....I live in just outside NE Philly. I will gladly give you a ring...thank you!
  8. Good day all! Helping a friend with a 1939 Plymouth convertible, and frankly...it's well out of my area of expertise. The car is largely done, but I need to install wiring into the headlights. I have removed the lens and the clips that retain the reflector yet I can't seem to get the reflector to come out of the housing. I'm being very careful as I don't want to cause damage. Could I just be missing something very simple in these Rite Way lights?
