  1. wow I'd take 1/2 that....lol I'm not trying to make money but I'd rather not take a bath either. I've been down this road before with cars and generally you get $.50 on the dollar spent. I probably have 3k in this one...although I could easily drop another 3 easy.
  2. It has been a while since I posted. I've done some work on my 51. Sadly I need to move it along, I have found something else more in my "wheelhouse" The boss says one at a time. Anybody want to give me a rough idea on what it is worth? Motor runs well, it is solid and straight, it has many new parts including, cap/rotor, wires, plugs, fuel pump, water pump, belts/hoses (still have the old factory pieces), master cylinder, front wheel cylinders, re-lined shoes ($$$) and re-maned carb. The passenger side rear wheel cylinder blew up so I capped the line for now...as I don't have the drum removal tool. The truck still stops and "yards drives" I have driven it around the block but nothing over 20mph. The oil pressure and water temp gauge work, the gas gauge probably will work. Speedo cable is missing but the unit works. I have also bench tested the horn, wipers, blower motor they all work, I also pressure tested the heater core, it holds. The lights are in place but I need to get the switch wired in. Any ideas?
  3. Good info. I adjusted the uppers and it slid on. I'll go ahead and adjust both now. Truck will be up in the air for a few... waiting on a fule pump and I have to send the carb back. It is leaking out of the throttle shaft. Old motor runs really well thou. Almost hate to pull it.
  4. will do the old ones were totally gone, down to the metal.
  5. I'll try that. Are they in the same spot as the fronts? The new wheel cylinders are dimensions the same as the old ones I pulled off.
  6. So I have my new drum.hub and brakes. I went to put the front drum on and it will not fit (w/o tappping w/ a hammer). I have a 51 1/2 ton that somebody put a 3/4 tont front axle from a 52-54. It appears that the only way to adjust the shoes is w/ 2 cams at the base. The top is the "sticking" point. Anybody have any ideas?
  7. Thanks, no heated slab, but it is heated. I've worked many a winter on various projects. I finally got the brake drum I needed so brakes are next!.
  8. First fire with the carb after sending it to Uremco. Looks and runs great. I did find out I'll need a fuel pump, the old one is leaking out of the weep hole. This is the 1st time running the engine for more than 40-50 seconds. I let it run a while, temp gauge works, oil pressure works, amp gauge works. Now I need to get the brakes finished, interior finished, bed finished and I might be able to drive it. HAHAHA. I did go thru the gears a few time, no noises, no leaks so that is a plus. https://youtu.be/cJ7pMoG6KWg
  9. uggg it cracked! now I need to find one....
  10. 4lb hammer...haha. I can probably heat it up and get it straight. Does anybody have a part number of the specs on the wheel studs? These look like they don't have any ridges on them. I'm used to the mid-late 60's type. Were these pressed in at the factory? I do have access to a press.
  11. Yeah I used PB for like 3 days prior.. There is a disc conversion for the front that is $375 w/o cals and rotors. I already picked up a new Master. I ordered the stock replacement wheel cylinders and the seem to be exact. Any idea what those are off of?
  12. So I'm rebuilding the brake system on my 51 1/2 ton, 1st trick somebody has swapped the front over to a 3/4 or maybe even 1 ton as I now have 11x2.5 drums w/ 5" on 5" drums. SOOO I knocked all the lugs out They were all spun and I had to cut the lugs off. Then on the last lug the drum BENT. These are 2 piece, the hub goes inside the drum and the lugs seem to press thru both drum and hub...anybody have knowledge on these? So I need to find a drum, no luck on ebay or the like. Should I just straighten it back out and roll?
  13. I sent my brake shoes out to Unlimited Services in Washington State. They "re-shoed" them for $120. Not sure you are going to find them cheaper anywhere. I also found new wheel cylinders and lines for the front all for under $100 shipped. At some point somebody upgraded my 1/2 fronts for 3/4 or 1 tone, as the are now single cylinder 11x2.5" and 5" on 5" lug pattern.
  14. thanks guys. That is VHT cast aluminum I believe. I used VHT cast iron on the intake and exhaust manis...
  15. Well I got the 51 running. The Ignition switch is bad so I had to hot wire it, odd because I used the (-) to the (-) coil. I'm not used to this backwards stuff it makes my head hurt. Anyway still a lot to do. The carb leaks like crazy so it will need a rebuild. Not sure about the fuel pump, I took the bowl off to clean everything up. it had 1/4" of crud in it. Front shoes should be here next week and I'll get going on the brake system. I'm hoping to drive it before too long.
