  1. Although I have had some luck with WD40, if it was all I had on hand, it is not the best penetrating oil. PB Blaster, or any of the other products mentioned above will give you a better chance of getting the bolts out. WD40 is neither a good penetrating oil, or lubricant. It is for water displacement (WD). Of course forget all this if you already succeeded with WD40 and or heat.
  2. My head must still be in the 60's. When I read your title, I thought you were having trouble getting undressed. I do sometimes, I can barely reach my shoes anymore.
  3. Sorry for your trouble. I had a problem opening the trunk lid on my '55 Desoto. I took the back cushion out and with a couple of flashlights, and every ratchet extension I had, I was able to reach the bolts and remove the lock. It wasn't easy lining up the socket with the bolts, but doable. The trunk on your car is probably shorter than on the '55, so it might not be that bad of a job. Worth a try, hope that helps and good luck.
  4. I hate the look of doe snot on my battery....................................sorry.
  5. Dodgeb4ya, That is a beautiful wheel. No wonder it cost so much. It was probably the last NOS Desoto wheel out there. I had to fill a few cracks and paint my Chrysler wheel, but I really like the look of that original. Dean
  6. Hi Justin, Sorry, I don't know about the Dodge wheel, but I know a Chrysler wheel will fit. I picked up a '50 or '51 Chrysler wheel at Carlisle for $50. a couple of years ago. I had to use the Chrysler horn ring because of the angle of the wheel spokes. Anyway, if the Dodge wheel doesn't work out, maybe you could find a Chrysler wheel. Dean
  7. Thank you Robin, and Happy New Year to you also. WeegieBob, I just noticed I neglected to tell you how nice your car is....love the white. Dean
  8. Robin, very nice picture of your car meet. Just curious, where was it taken? My dad was stationed at Thorpe Abbotts during WW2, flying B-17 missions. Shot down over Germany and survived a year in a prison camp before being liberated at the end of the war. He died 3 years ago at age 93. Sorry, off track....I have a '51 Desoto convertible. Wish it could have been in that lineup of beautiful cars. Dean
  9. This might sound strange, but is your emergency brake adjusted correctly? I had a problem with my car bucking, mostly in reverse when backing out of the garage. It turned out to be the shoes on the e brake needed adjusting.
  10. Thanks again everyone for your advice. I have a better understanding of how to proceed now. It has been so hot and humid here, I probably will wait for some cooler weather. I am going to try to attach a couple of pics of the inside of the lid.
  11. Thanks again. You guys are a wealth of knowledge. I'll try to get some pictures of the backside of the lid over the weekend. There is no damage other than the skin. It is pushed into the middle of the "C" or "U" shaped structural part of the lid. I think pulling it out is the route I'll take. I am new at body work, so I hope I can get it right.
  12. Thanks again you guys. I appreciate the link for the shrinking disc.....now I see what they are but would have to learn how to use one. I have thought about cutting some of the bracing to get access, but I don't want to make matters worse. I have also thought about paying a pro to do it, but need to find someone local I can trust. In 2015 at Carlisle I ran across a vender with a perfect trunk lid for a '51 Desoto, but he said it was from a sedan and would not fit the convertible. I did not have any measurements with me so I passed.
  13. Thanks Plymouthy. As I understand it, you are saying to work from the perimeter in. A couple of things....I don't know what a shrinking disc is and a hammer and dolly won't work. I can't get to the skin from the inside because of the frame or structure of the lid. I will try to get a picture of the backside tonight or this weekend. thanks again.
  14. Thank you both for the quick responses. The problem is, I cannot work from inside because of the lid structure. That's why I thought I would have to pull it out. I just didn't know if a stud welder would work because of the slight crease. I will try to attach another picture that might help. No experience with body work here, but would like to try and do this one myself.
  15. Hi, I hope someone with experience using a stud welder can help me. There is a dent in the lower left "corner" of my trunk lid that needs to be pulled out. I will try to attach pictures, but in case it doesn't work I will give a brief description and my question. The dent is approximately 2.5" wide and 5" tall (it's vertical) and very near the edge of the lid. There is a very slight crease, so I am wondering if a stud welder would work. Do I have to get the pins right in the crease, or pins on each side of the crease? I don't think I could get the welder to sit flat at the crease. Does it need to sit flat in order to work? Thanks in advance, Dean
