  1. thank you should that be replaced or can i just pull it and clean it? also would it be safe to drop the oil pan and blow air through the lines and stuff? trying to clean out all the sludge and what not?
  2. also how would you suggest cleaning all the oil return lines and all that in the valves and stuff?? what did you do?
  3. alright thank you guys for the help and the pcv setup what is that?? and what is the oil bypass valve and where is it see i get what your saying i just dont understand what that is in this engine. ive never seen one of these engines before again im a chevy 350 guy. so could you explain in really good detail? what that stuff is.
  4. hey guys i decided to start a new subject my old one is kinda dead now. so as you all know i have a 1950 b2c with the 218 l 6. i finally got it to run rebuilt the carb today and it wont stay running for more than 5 minutes but still ik it will run once its really hooked up. but now that i have an exhaust system installed on it somewhat. its more quiet at the engine and i have noticed two things. crankshaft pully wobbles a lot. and theres a ticking coming from inside the valve train. so i started the engine and ran it and the weird thing is none of the lifters are stuck they all move freely with the engine running i was actually able to spin the lifters with my fingers they seemed to spin pretty freely is that what the should do and i dont know if the engine is supposed to do that i mean its a 1950 im sure the lifters werent dead silent but any help would be greatly appreciated. all valves open and close i dont have the tools to adjust them and not exactly able to run it long enough to get the engine to temperature. so if they are supposed to spin freely like that when the engine is running what could be making the ticking? i used an oil gun and sprayed thick oil on the lifters and it didnt silence the ticking at all they look like they are getting lubricated. ive been having oil passage problems so im scared to run the engine to long i dont want to break it. basically my oil gauge reads 40-50 and when i unplug that line it spurts oil but when i unhook the line to my oil filter the return and the supply nthing comes out of those two lines so i dont know if just that passage is clogged or something else is. you see if this was an earlier engine the info would be available but like my dad said it being a 1950 and a chrysler we just dont know too much about it. so if you could give me info and tips on how to chase the tick and adjust my valves and just any info you can really. i need every ounce of knowledge i can get!!! thank you all so much ill try and get a video of it maybe and post it or post it on my youtube so you can watch and listen also my enghine has some pretty bad sludge whats a good additive to remove all that??
  5. thank you. i kinda understand the instructions. and so the rollers where the window slides on with the window regulator.. mine are broken is there a way i can get new ones?? i have a parts truck but it has the doors with the full pain of glass not the vent windows. can i take the rollers off that one??
  6. well when i was youngert(13) i broke the track that the window regulator slides on the window, (it has like these who little rollers) those two things are broke how would i fix that??? and well my windows just dont crank easily would i just have to replace the rubber?? the mecs have been taken out and cleaned and oiled the move nice and smooth till they are installled back in the truck

  8. ive been trying to get my starter off for weeks so you have to have an offset wrench? what size? and so my truck has the split windows in the doors like the little vent window and stuff does anyone know where i can get parts for these? like replacements and stuff my tracks and everything just need replaced and how do i take apart all the tracks and stuff inside the door??
  9. thanks guys for all the help. im pulling the engine apart now for my budies to chrome parts and powder coat them so it will look new! and guys im sorry but this forum isnt worth fighting over were all gentlemen lets respect eachother. these trucks are classy so should our attitudes toward one another. anyways i dont know if i forgot to mention but ihave 2 trucks and the parts truck engine is siezed but fixable but id rather sell the engine to make money.. so heres my question for you guys out there how hard would it be to swap a simple 318-360 into the parts truck so i have two running trucks?? just some fuel for the fire. to get me excited.

I gave him the type of distributor i had yes and i got all my parts they were direct bolt ons to the distributor and it worked great the truck is now running and i tuned it with my timing light and my neighbor adjusted the carb so the engine runs pretty health he read the spark plugs to tel me that its fuel mixture is pretty good so all in all just minor testing and stuff to see if the engine is safely running and if it passes all my test well im going for a ride haha. and yeah its a 3/4 ton so is that going to make geting parts any harder?
  11. look sir i dont understand your problem with me? you asked a question and i answered it by saying its already been replaced? im sorry if im not interpreting what your trying to ask wrong.. but im not here for you to act like im a teenage moron and try to make me look like a fool im here because i needed help and the other people who helped me did so very respectful. now i dont know you and im not fighting or disrespecting you sir but you keep talking about how im not giving information...im giving the most information i have at that present time. anyways. i replaced points, condenser, coil and wires and i can say finally after the longest of waiting and trouble shooting i just took my timing light off after a 10 minute warm up and a nice ol neighbor tuning the carb she runs fires rite up and idles like a dream woke the whole neighborhood thanks to a glass pack muffler but eh they didnt mind to much. thank you all for all your help and sorry for my "un detailed" answers next project... BRAKES!! WHERE TO GET PARTS AND WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TAKING IT TO A SHOP?
  12. my cap and rotor are new. every ignition part is new and the clearances are all set and i just tampered with it and i got one spark and then now i have nothing again. for the amount of money ive spent troubleshooting i couldve just bought a distributor with electronic ignition and been done with it im on the edge lol. its one grimlin little turd rite now. was firing all day got it to actually run and rev for about 1 minute then boom dead in the water
  13. alright guys need help. engine had great spark literally saw it run today. so i bought brand new coil points and condenser. replaced the coil. the distributor has spark now like when i take a screw driver and i break the points and touch it down again it sparks. so theres obvious power going to the points and condenser... put i have no spark to my spark plugs? wires are brand new spark plugs all new less than 3 days old. new battery new coil.. everything is new why dont i have any spark i did 4 hours ago now i have nothing??
  14. haha i need auto parts stores who arent full of fat ricer teenage mechanics i called all the autopart stores and get the usual "yeah we got it come on down" but get in there and a kid whos never touched a piece of american metal with a wrench is sitting there and has no clue if anything willwork so i had to buy all the different ones and 100$ later hopefully it will start!!
  15. thank you guys and okay i really got it running this time to where it was responsive to the throttle and everything but now i have no spark..... list just keeps growing!! so it started reved up real fast and everything got it back to idle and shut it off. came back 5 min later and had no spark soo theres that. im going to order a 12v coil, points and condenser tomorrow. im tired of it as soon as i fix one problem another pops up.
  16. i ordered the gasket for the oil pan ill either drop it tomorrow or friday night. and thank you ill have to do that and see if i get oil coming out of there. what do you know about tuning one of these? is there only one screw to adjust the fuel flow?
  17. so ive taken the oil pump out and it pumps oil my oil pressure guage says i have 40psi just cranking the engine over. and well ive never had an engine this gummed up its clean in the cylinders and intake but dirty in the oil pan. so i have oil pressure good oil pressure i just think maybe the engine doesnt pump oil to the filter until its decently warm? everything that pumps the oil on this truck works except my filter isnt getting oil to it so i know its pumping to the engine just not the filter. and i dont know how to read spark plugs... ive never been taught how.
  18. i used one that fit in the spark plug hole and didn't go any deeper in the engine than the bottom of the spark plug. the engine has great compression i can feel it. i don't have a pressure gauge with me and i tested it about 2 years ago. im trying to give all the info i can, but like i said some stuff i just don't know. i took out my oil pump and i have checked it it pumps oil strong so i put my finger in the oil drain hole and there is a lot of built up old thick oil on the inside surface of the pan. i think if i drop the pan and pull out the sump and clean it it will work because i have pressure from the oil pump its just not picking up any oil. im giving all the info i can. i really wanna see this thing run and run healthy i know engines because ive built chevy engines i just don't know the small details and troubleshooting on this engine. its got good compression and strait valves the gaps are all good and so are the clearances its a solid engine the only problem with it at the moment is the oil system and i think its just clogged and needs to be filtered and changed till it clears out and i get nice clean oil through it. is there any way to clean the oil valleys and little cavities in the engine? i thought blowing it out with air but i don't know is there a chemical i can pressurize through the system to clean it??
  19. they were all around 70-75 psi if i remember rite. and im pulling the oil pump rite now to see if their is any problems. im hoping there isnt any and i can just re prime the pump and test it.
  20. changed the oil today and checked everything and it all checked out. i put the air cleaner on it choked it..didn't even pump the gas once. turned the key and bam purin like a kitty. She sounded so good! tomorrow I'm going to fill the radiator with water and let it run for a few minutes maybe take it for a little drive. I hope everything works because if i can get it to drive its off to get the brakes fixed next week and then im going to put all the panels back on it and make it a truck again and then i sowed my own seat cover and shaping my own foam and then attaching it and there we go 1950 dodge truck for 800$
  21. okay ill have to take some pics this weekend and yes i have read the whole manual like a dozen times. and i compression tested the engine and all the cylinders had within 5psi of eachother. so that was good and ive rebuilt engines before ive just never done this exact engine before. and no i didnt drop the oil pan i will if i change the oil and dont get it to pump this weekend. im trying to avoid taking off as many parts as possible because then i have to go and hunt down the gaskets and since i have no credit card its kinda hard to order parts. haha but yeah everything to makethis engine run is there and great the truck only had like 20< miles its just double checking everything to maker sure im not going to blow my engine.
  22. well heres a pick of my engine currently ive pulled the head off to repaint it my head is painted flat black and my engine block is going to be a burnt copper orange. other things will be black powdercoated and then i have some that are gettting chromed by a friend. but here is the only and most recent pic i have of it taken last weekend... lot cleaner huh? thats what 2 years of hand brushing and screwdriver scraping gets you.. engine still had original paint!!! engine.htm
  23. okay so the truck was parked in running condition, it held water and everything, radiator was full of water when i got and it sat in my garage for a year and there wasnt any leaks or anything. so i drained the water out and everything to have the radiator cleaned out. so that was the last time the cooling system had water in it since then i have changed oil and no water has been through the cooling system so it cant be a cracked block. it did sit outside for 2 or three years so im wondering if maybe water didnt seep in through the oil pan breather next to the distributor. and the only part thats been removed was the head. but it was put back on that night so im thinking rain just got in somewhere because the engine was exposed to the elements for quite some time. but the oiling problem i have no clue becuase i havent gotten the engine to run more than 15 seconds or so. so im wondering if it just hasnt gotten warm enough to pump oil to that filter i dont know if i have oil pressure too but when i checked the valves they look lubed up and there these little reservoir type things between them that have fresh oil so i feel like its pumping oil it just hasnt had a chance to run it to the filter.
  24. oh really theres a movie with these trucks in it?? ill have to watch it and hey guys thank you all for this help!! what can you tell me about the oiling system on the engine? its never ran long enough to warm up at most its ran for like 15-20 seconds but its been cranked a tonnnn so i popped my oil filter lid and theres no oil in there and ik its full of oil so does it not pump oil to the filter till the engine gets to temp?? really dont wanna rep;ace the oil pump haha! and somehow water got into my oil so i need to change it anyways i have no clue how it could have because the radiator hasnt had water through it since i rebuilt it!

So, yet another question!!! this truck has new oil in it brand new almost! never even ran engine on the oil. and the engine had no water in it (in the cooling system) so my oil is milky white like it has water in it. I just think its a bad head gasket seal. but heres my main problem i know they dont push a lot of oil pressure and ive never exactly got the engine to run but it has oil in it like i said but even after the hours ive spent cranking it over there seems to be absolutely no oil in the oil filter how is that possible?? does the engine only push oil to it if its warmed up? what can you tell me about this issue because im days from tuning my engine and id hate to seize the engine!!! please help!! again i know nothing about how this oil system works!!! my filter was replaced about 2 years ago doesnt seem like oil has ever touched it??
