  1. It looks like the pos cable from the battery anode not a grounding strap. Isn't the pos cable attached under the generator?
  2. BigRed, should you be using a headbolt for your ground? Will it hold torque, could there be water jacket issues?
  3. Smokings bad for you Shel, It being a compression gasket instead of a seal makes my comments way off base. Learn it,don't assume it. Sorry guys.
  4. Have driven the orange goves in Porterville and Terra Bella in a 53 Olds. Thats when I found out they use bad oranges to feed the dairy cows!
  5. Silly question on the sloppy pump arm, could'nt you press out the old pin drill out slop and press in oversize pin? Or are there accessability issues?
  6. I stumbled across a website called 39-47 Dodge, for dodge and fargo trucks and there was a thread about www.westach.com, said they make brand new 6 volt positive ground tachs. And they do! Go to the site left side it will say TOOLS Click on NEW build an instrument It starts with gauge size 2"-3 1/8" Then no. of instruments-like single or cluster Type of instrument next-Tachometer There is a whole page of tach's, not all 6 v pos ground, from 6,000 rpms to 8,000 rpms. Even tachs at 3,500 and less! Some say Std Pt Ign. that is what I was looking for. Happy hunting!
  7. Thanks Chris, for the thoughts!
  8. Shel, it means don't let your gages burnout, have seen several joking references to this on this site. Bad gaskets mean condensation or foriegn matter can drop in causing a short .Thus causing smoke.
  9. Just don't let all the smoke out! Gages no good after that.
  10. I see flat black on your rockers and rear fender, is it spray on protection or painted trim? Of course I noticed that only after drooling over your awesome p-15!
  11. Try Brad Faxon at www.faxonautolit.com he has advertised in Hemmings for 31 years and they have not kicked him to the curb yet.
  12. ie; pink ferd, is there a reason to leave the rear side window higher than the front? Raked top?
  13. Some of the first tires were all white because they did'nt dye them, the gum from the tree is white in natural state. Maybe all of the sidewall did not get as dirty as the treads and there is your original whitewall..lol..!
  14. Got to work sat. repairing grille. Found a perfect vertical section and oiled it's backside with PAM[oil, not another woman!]. Then procceded to work plaster of paris and pour it into the grille. Let dry and removed by simply turning grille over. Now I have my interior contour. Traced the profile on red oak blank and cut it to shape with scrollsaw. Finalized with a little hand sanding, fits in the grille well. Did the same on face giving me a wooden die. Took everything to the truck shop used their press. Disconnected air and used hand action so as not to overly distort stamping. Used metal plate on top of back die. It did the job better than expected, just a tiny ding left, but that can be taken out with patience. Next angle reattatchment!
  15. Then the car will match the owner! My seams need fixin' I lose everythingI I,m not going to be on the cover of GQ EVER! Not to mention I,m not as not as fast as I once was.
  16. You always dress period at car shows, where were your vacation black knee socks and brown wingtips...lol Nice pic's, glad you had fun, welcome back.
  17. Coker tire 423-265-6368 Universal vintage tire 800-233-3827 White wall candy store714-649-2393 Diamond back classics 880-922-1642 These vendors and more are in the back of every Hemming's issue. I have never had the need to look ant farther than that. What I did for mounting was drive around to the Mom&Pop tire shops until I found an oldtimer to mount the tires by hand, well worth the effort just to watch him at work! The franchise shops just don't give a $hit about your concerns, in and out that's our motto! Good hunting!
  18. Caifornia's state motto ought to be the "Pay to play state" Except what your paying for is a necessity.
  19. I always look forward to your jokes andy! What if you put 200 mph[nascar]tape on your car would you go faster? lol
  20. I'm sure you are correct, I want you guys to know this is not a put down I love my L-head 6, it will be dependable and get us around for many years to come. Next summer is when the engine is budgeted for freshening up probably a rebuild kit, 30 over pistons, true the deck, and shave the head. Don turned me onto dual points so we are definately going in that direction. Thanks for all the input guys!
  21. I have a 392 with O-rings, works really well. I guess the bottam line is that you could pay to play and still never attain more than say, 200 plus HP.
  22. Those are not my future plans, I was more interested in the durability of these engines when modified to the very edge of their tolerances. ie; how much is too much? Overkill is in the eye of the beholder, everyone's ideas differ of course.
  23. Every year for the last 15 years I have been the scare crow from Dorothy land . Grandkids love it and local kids don't mind! Did you Know that Buddy Epsen was the original tinman, but the silver paint gave him a bad reaction! Love to hand out the goodies
  24. We had a&b's also. My favorite was starting them with a muscular turn of the counter weight wheel![open the petcock newbie!] Great grampa had the best looking tractor an old CASE with the cab that looked like an art deco design, or at least a hudson. Front end sheetmetal flowed right into the cab. Which of course was very new in its day.
  25. 265 to 218...modified What kind of numbers can be expected for horsepower? I have read 60 to 90 over on cylinders,50 to 70 on shaved head and block., Full flow headers with dual carbs, how far can you go before becoming unreliable? Aggresive cam profiles, what is the wear and tear? Happy Hallow's Eve!
