Cows are tough, but dang you gotta feel for them. When I was but a lad we had a bad storm in Lake City, Ia. Sleet snow mixed with driving winds caused some of our cattle to wander looking for protection, went right through the fence in the opposite direction of the lean-to.
Their eye lashes were frozen shut and were blindly seeking cover. The railroad is only a 1/2 mile from the pasture, 6 steers were hit by a train that night out of 15. Needless to say it was my job to round them up after that. Doggone cows enaway!
