I second rainex for any car, maybe 12V wiper with a coverter box, step your 6 to 12 just for your wipers? Or is ther such a creature?

Ed, wouldn't it be simple to take your new replacement sockets, take the contacts off like Merle said on his old ones, and add the right gauge wires to the new socket assemblies and solder on new contacts. Or after I type this...maybe just buy the sockets without wires? And add your own? -

Griddle cakes instead of pancakes, and yes it was a treat to go into town every month to buy things we couldn't make or grow. Store bought replaced homemade and home grown in the 80's. -
Solve your drivetrain problems, move on to the electrical so as not to burn it down...then do as you please! Just my 2 cents.

Non UV resistant fabric and no tinted glass would surely advance fading. Like the "buckskin" vinyl used on mopars in the 80's turned green due to exposure.
