  1. I can’t speak for 6 volt leds but I have a Jeep with 7” round headlights and my experience with those is you get what you pay for. I’ve got cheap led bulbs in the oem reflector. They flicker a little and the beam pattern is terrible, they are very bright but still don’t illuminate the road any better then good halogens.
  2. Buy the socket, you may need it again someday.
  3. Vacuum leak somewhere, like a leaking gasket under the freshly rebuilt carb.
  4. If these guys can get these two motors freed up then I have no doubt the one in your pictures can be saved. The series isn’t done yet but on the Buick they made a plate to bolt over a stuck piston and the used a portapower to push it with hydraulics.
  5. I’ve had the same problem, it helps to email or text them to yourself to resize the photos then upload.
  6. If it’s running and driving, keep it running and driving. If you get into a project that puts the car into a “pile of parts” in the garage for years at a time it’s hard to stay motivated on it.
  7. I think a thread with pictures of members cars is a great idea even if there is a gallery. Mine isn’t done yet but I’ll put the first picture in this picture thread
  8. Please post pictures, there are many ways to do the same thing. Even though I’m not the person that asked the original question I am also adding ac to a car that never came with it and more information is always better. Plus I like looking at pictures.
  9. I have a handful of square nuts that I put in tanks that I strap to a lawnmower wheel, only done on small engine gas tanks, never had to do it to a car sized tank. I don’t see why it wouldn’t scale up with what others have already posted just wanted to add the square nuts part, they seem to work best for me.
  10. I made the inner rocker panel but I found outer rockers from classic to current fabrication for 35 bucks each. I was very surprised when I ordered them on Sunday and Monday morning I got the email they should be arriving Wednesday. I’ll post an update when I get a chance to work on it again.
  11. The channels fill up with dirt and the dirt holds the moisture and then they rot. Same thing with the rocker panels. The rest of the body is in great shape, minor surface rust and a bad repaint.
  12. I think I got this now, I emailed the pictures to myself and that resized them.
  13. I keep getting a message saying “upload failed !-200” anyone know what that means?
  14. I had the same issue, po just laid 1/4 plate over the holes.
  15. Woo hoo I think I got it to work, if so more pictures to follow.
  16. It may not look like much and once the rebuild is complete no one will ever see this stuff so hopefully some people here will appreciate all the work that goes into removing rot from a 70 year old car in the rust belt. Edit: cant seem to get the pictures to upload, if I can get it figured out I'll post some pictures
  17. On my 49 special deluxe I went with 1998 Ford Explorer master cylinder moved to the firewall, took the whole rear axle with disc brakes and disc brakes on the front. I made the conversion brackets myself and drilled the rivets to pull the drums off the hubs, drilled and pressed in studs too. The original wheels only fit with a 1/4 spacer behind them, so I’m probably just going to get some 16 inch steel rims and try to get the original hubcaps to fit somehow. Haven’t got that far yet.
  18. All great info, thanks guys. I was hoping there was something the same size from a more recent car. I’ll probably end up making something like casper showed.
  19. Does anyone know where I can find new body mounts for a 1949 two door special deluxe?
  20. Flat six was shot when I got the car, 95,000 miles and sat with water in the cylinders for several decades. 95 hp and the cool factor of the flathead wasn’t enough to justify what it would’ve cost to save it.
  21. 5 gallons of air at 120psi is way more air then engine vac at that varies from 0 to maybe 25 inches of vac (only -14 psi at best). I’ve never driven a car with vacuum powered wipers before. I’ve heard that even when working perfectly they stop working on acceleration. I guess if I can’t get them to run on air I’ll just get a vacuum canister and maybe a vacuum pump.
  22. Car has airbag suspension so a source of compressed air isn’t a problem
  23. My 49 special deluxe has vacuum powered wipers, I was just wondering if anyone has converted them to be powered by compressed air. Is it even possible?
