Maxed out is my mentality! I measured each motor width and the 340 is approximately 25" and the 440 about 30". Hate to chop the Ole boy up since he's made it this far. Looks like 340 or even a 360 tweaked with a manual trans should get me down the road, minus a bit of rubber. Now for the rear end... any thoughts? Thank you for your help.

I am deciding on a different motor/trans set up for my 53 pilot house. I am deciding between an early 70's 340 or even a 440 for less money. Will the 440 fit without doing any modifications to the steering column/box or inner fenders? I plan on keeping the front end stock except for upgraded brakes. I have my eye on a 4 speed trany too.I don"t want to butcher the truck so keeping it close to stock but having reliablity is important. Thanks.
