A sad ending to a whole lot of clip jobs. Even if they were symmetrical, the wheels just plain stick out too far. A different setback on rims might help, but who knows what else lurks under there.
I bought a 218 motor for rebuilding, the owner had a nice 50 Plymouth 3 window coupe and he had subframed it with a Buick setup he claimed was the same as a Nova. Also added a 454. The whole setup was kinda creaky and scary. I'll stick with the old technology.
Not to say there aren't some great subframe setups out there, but they gotta be done right to look right.

Those script trim parts were pot metal and most got real pitted over time. I can believe the $222 for a NOS part, those are hard to find. Some folks just have too darned much money:D Sometimes on ebay there will be used ones but they usually show a lot of wear. It's one of those things you just have to keep an eye out for. Go to auto swaps and look through the misc junk boxes. Sometimes you find surprising stuff there.
You might also be able to get a pitted one, apply some sandpaper, filler and silver metallic paint, for a reasonable looking piece until you find a shiny one. That's what i did to my hopelessly rusty rear bumper.

Joe, you're at that fun part where it's like assembling a great big model car piece by piece.

I'm almost speechless. Right at the end as Broderick was walking away, you can hear him mutter, "If he'd a had twin carbs and overdrive, I'd a never caught him..."
Here is some rare in-car footage from that episode.

Dorothy is immaculate. I love that hood!

Same here. My local shop was an interstate dealer and carried Optima, and also had their own "brand X" batteries which carried a higher amperage rating than the interstates and cost less. I've had good luck with those brand X ones in all my vehicles, 6 volt, 12 volt, boats, motorcycle.

Bob, that one is a beauty! NOS. I kept the original 4 off my P24, still usable but not that nice.

That is one wild looking dash. I like it.

That Buick looks great. Is it air conditioned? That engine was called a "Fireball Eight" here in the states.
Air conditioned, too. Wonder if that's a 6 volt compressor.

Joe, even more important than painting the base is first hitting the mounting screw hole areas with a little sandpaper. As I recall, these need a good solid ground to operate the system properly. I once put a temporary regulator on a P15, just to start the car and move it in the driveway. I didn't tighten the mounting screws and the ammeter was jumping all over the place.

Driver quality is a lot more fun than show quality. Do you get a lot of comments from folks when you pull in for gas or drive through town? People love seeing the old ones being driven.

I winterize mine by making sure I have the correct balance of coolant and water, usually by an annual full coolant change. I put the heater components back in under the hood and hook up the hoses. The winter here is a little colder and a lot windier than my old digs in Cali. It can get down into the teens some nights. I enjoy driving the old gal more in cool weather than in the blazing hot summer months.
If you guys haven't viewed the Clint Eastwood movie "Gran Torino" you should. An interesting look at changing neighborhoods in America.

Wow! A 427 plus a jet engine. And he actually put 3500 miles on it, quite a lot for such a specialized ride.

Nice find! You seldom see one with a body that solid. The overdrive is a real plus. It allows you to cruise at 65-70 without winding up the rpms. Do you have the original wheel covers? I've seen several sets of them go for cheap on ebay.

Have a fast recovery Greg. Good that modern medicine has things like this procedure to offer. Isn't that the same procedure that David Letterman had a few years back?

Seems like a lot of car for the buy it now price.

I like the black over red but that black over black looks really classy!

Mine could use this I'm sure. How did the install go? did you press them in with a vise? The only rear bushing job I recall doing was on a 79 Volvo, and I used a hydraulic press.

I think the builder did a pretty nice job. The front end treatment is one of very few modified P15s that came out looking like a finished job. The chop looks good to me. About the only thing I would have not done is the 39 Ford taillights. They're OK, in fact that's what's on my teardrop, but just not a good look on the P15. I'd be surprised if he gets $20K for it though, in this economy.

Looks like a real beauty.

Thanks Ralph, I do hope to go north on my next trip.

Marty, are you running a stock distributor or an HEI? Where's your initial timing set at?

I've always liked that color on your car. Just looks good. Congrats on the trophy.
'40plym, since when do we stay on topic anyhow?
