thanks dpollo. i am preparing for an issue like that as well, i have an 87-90 dodge dakota power rack and pinion, and a power steering pump/brackets i am planning on fitting to the engine/chassis also. lots of cutting, fabbing, and head scratching...no worries...

well good, now that the experts have weighed in, to assert authorative correction of terminology, ,......can someone answer the question i asked in the first place.....? i ask about fitment,,,,,,thanks.

it may very well be just a 3-speed. haven't paid that close attention to it. i know for sure it came from a 52-53 plymouth, and it si an R10...

hi folks. looking for some info. i have a potential project brewing, i am purchasing an all stock 48 dodge coupe, with flat six and 3-spd fluidrive. i have a 54 dodge red ram hemi i plan on swapping in, and i have a complete fluidrive/borg-warner R10 overfrive unit from a 52-53 plymouth. now, will the BW OD/fluidrive unit bolt up to the 241 hemi? or, any combonation of the parts i have work? i am prepared to fabricate ear motor mounts and such, would just like to keep my column shifter. will be doing the 2wd ford explorer spindles on front and explorer 8.8 with disc in the future as well. thanks for any help and input....

seat is dakota seat, i removed the stock "riser" from the cab floor, used 2 1/2" sqaure tube under my seat tracks. steering wheel comes further back in the cab, and at a lower angle than stock. i am 6'2" and 245lbs, and it is plenty comfortable to me. we have driven to quite a few events, some 2-3 hours each way, and even the wifey likes driving it, with no complaints. so,that ought to say something, lol. only thing i would maybe do different, would be to use a tilt column. i don't need or care for the truck having it, i'm just saying most people like them.

hi guys and gals. haven't been on here much. been busy. not alot to tell, just been driving my ole truck. have put about 1000 miles on it since completion. she still knocks down 20+ mpg, been on a couple 3+ hour trips. gets the job done. here is a photobucket link of my build from start to finish. enjoy......http://s207.photobucket.com/user/superbyrd/library/49ratdodge2014

mine is a B-1-C. rides on an 87 dakota chassis. 3.9 V6, 904 and all. mine was a longbed reg cab chassis (124inch WB) my 49 is 116. i chopped the frame where the factory seams them together, and fabbed up all the mounts. everything fits like a glove. a very easy conversion. i have about 1000 miles on mine. ample power, 21-22mpg, drive anywhere.

here are some more pics showing the progress thus far on the bed floor. have the seat and dakota gauge cluster in now. and some underhood shots.....

thanks for the kudos guys. the fit of everything from the dakota was almost amazing how it almost just "dropped in" the 49. i mean, i centered the wheels in the front wheelwells, did no mods to the firewall. the passenger side valve cover is a good inch from the firewall, the steering shaft/plate at the bottom of the column, fit right in place and slid right back intro the rack and pinion with no shortening, the brake pedal mout bolted right in in a perfect spot on the firewall with no issues. it really is an easy fit. even the stock dakota radiator fits in between the sides and bottom of the factory core support with only minor trimming and notching. the only major work is raising the bed floor 4" to clear the stock dakota tank and rear shock crossmember. i used light duty 1" sqaure steel tube to build a frame work to hold my new bed-to-frame mounts (all 8 of them) and to give support to my.090" steel diamond plate that will be the new bed floor. its coming along nicely. i have honestly about 2 weeks total time in the entire build so far. its all the little details that will take more time./...

well, i'm not the best at keeping up with my picture taking as i go along. so, shes a driving truck now. frame shortened, all cab mounts fabed and mounted, bed floor raised 4 inches to clear stock dakota gas tank and crossmembers, still gotta finish bed floor and hook up llights, but, she goes down the road now.....

getting closer. still have to take 8 inches out of the dak's wheelbase, got the cab on the lift and the chassis rolled under it to get some visual and check soime clearances.....
