Thank you for all of that useful information. Trying to decide whether to stay with the original 1940 gearset in my P9 and keep it 3 speed or rebuild an R10 I have had sitting and swapping the "fast second" gearset into that. I dont plan on driving highways often but it would be nice to have that option !
Thank you Rich for those part numbers. I have many old catalogs and consider them gold for finding parts like that. It just takes a little more effort by well worth it.

I had that exact same problem in my 1940 P-9. Took the starter out and installed a new pinion drive gear and that fixed it..Might be something to check out as although your starter was rebuilt ,sometimes they don't always change them during the process. Good luck!
