  1. I think the NAPA on Normandie & Gardena Blvd is still there.Have not driven by them in years.
  2. Turn signals if not stock can be converted by using the parking lights with a turn signal switch and flasher unit and the bulbs depends on if you are running 6 V or 12 V. Most Napa have them in stock .
  3. Performance Plus is a good place is a good place too, Check prices all around those WW can get pricey . I'm in East LA and my Parents live in Torrance, I am there 4 or 5 times a week and sometimes I even bring my truck. There is a Saturday morning tire kicker and coffee spilling gathering in Torrance ( Hawthorne & Artesia ) every Sat morning 7-9:30am . I am sure your dad would be proud with what you are doing and how you are treating his car. If you need some help or some special tools that I might have just ask. There are more car shows and events in So Cal than you could ever attend, However the one in April ( Spring Fling ) @ Woodley Park in the Valley is one of the Best for the Swap Meet. The cars are cool too, You just missed the 3rd gathering of the So Cal Vintage MoPar Group in Irvine. Do Not worry, We will meet again. SOON. Keep the rubber on the road and the wind in your hair, Rod
  4. If you are looking to get white walls you might try Lucas Tires in Long Beach. Nice selection and decent prices. Just off the 405 & Cherry (Signal Hill area). Where in LA are you located? Any pictures of the project ? Some of my best memories are of my Pop and I working on cars, Enjoy the time with him.
  5. Tony, The Vault used to have some great cars, I'm sure there are many still there. I had heard they sold a few of their " Gems " to pay for the remodel. I got a chance to visit the Vault years ago.I loved the Black Rolls Royce with the round doors, There were some beautiful autos down there. Hope to get back there to see the " New Peterson " . Thanks for the heads up Tony, & Stay Dry, Rod
  6. Sorry to hear that Hank, You will be missed. See ya down the road.
  7. The park or your place sound like a good meeting place. I'm up for either. Just tell me where to park it.
  8. Heck Ya ! I think the more the merrier truck or not Mike. Still not sure about Hank making the trip yet, With so many coming down the 605 towards the 405 heading to Irvine might be time to find a meeting place in that area to gather the crowd before we hit the road south. 405 - 605 interchange is Seal Beach area , Anybody know a good wide place in the road to park or a doughnut joint in that area ? Looking forward to meeting a few more of you folks on Sunday. Rod
  9. I'm in ! I've been talking to Hank and am still hopeful he will make the trip also.
  10. Hey Jared, Nice looking project you have there.Welcome to the best source of information about these trucks on the internet or anywhere ! Get the beast running and safe and drive the heck out of it.
  11. That lockable storage door is a GREAT IDEA !! Hope you don't mind if I borrow/copy/replicate that special panel ?
  12. Beautiful Truck, Great Job on bringing it back to life and in the wind. Congrats !!
  13. I have messed with the California DMV many times, LEAVE IT ALONE !!!!! Like you said, They can only screw it up. When the 1951 MG TD fell out of their records for 30+ years, It took an original " Pink Slip " and a Cal 1964 Registration that my Pop had in his records to convince them to keep the original Black Plates we still had. We even took it to the CHP for inspection to match the engine numbers on the pink slip they still needed to see paper work. Just my 2c
  14. Someone once told me to try and release the brake bleeder valve and see if that will allow the pistons to retract enough and get the drum over the lip of the shoe .
  15. Sounds like you need a hub puller to finish the job. I'd knock it back home and try to pull it with one straight off this time. I've heard most auto parts locations have them to rent/borrow. I found my hub puller at a swap meet, think I paid $5.00.
  16. You all are GREAT!!! The Napa part numbers were Perfect ! I pulled the wheel, Just as I had thought and heard. The inner bearing was showing signs of major wear. So I replaced the bearing and race after I repacked it and the outer, 100% better. I checked the outer bearing and race and they were fine. Thanks again for all the help and information to help me keep my truck on the road.
  17. Thanks everybody for those Napa part numbers, I'll tear it apart this afternoon when I get back home and check out the damage. I was passing by a Napa yesterday morning that is why I asked for their numbers. Once I get into it I don't want to leave it open,So If I buy new bearings I can replace, repack & back on the road. Thanks again all, Rod
  18. While doing some freeway driving the other day, I heard what I was hoping was just a rough area of the freeway. Or at least wheel noise from the new/old hub caps. No such luck. I lifted the wheel and heard what sounds like bad wheel bearings. No biggie, went to Napa and no luck. They want to see and match them. Found Timken part numbers @ rock auto . Both of the Big Vendors on the site just give their part number. Found the Part # on the Pilot House web site but that does not work on the Napa site. Does anybody have a "good" part # I can go to Napa and pick up a set. I have a '50 B2B, I believe stock drums etc. I am looking for part numbers for the inner and the outer. I will pull the wheel and see how bad things are and get some grease in there. Thanks for any and all the help and information. Rod
  19. Go for it Guys, The 17th is a birthday weekend for me. So plan it and I'll try and save it . Keep me informed, Not sure if Hank will make the drive out to the OC but I'll be there if I can.
  20. Yes! I'm up for a weekend cruise. True after the Holiday season might be best for most, But anytime in So Cal is a Great Day for a Drive and Gathering ( Unless it's 5 PM on Friday ) Post when and where and we'll see who shows.
  21. Happy Veteran's all & Semper Fi to all my Leather Neck Brothers.
  22. The only reason I used the starter tap was to clear/clean the threads at the top of the block for a nice start for the bottom tap. I wanted to make sure I was not cross threading any. Besides I had to MAKE time not to flip out and rest because the broken bolt still stuck in the block refused to come out easy. Took me 6 hours to work the busted bolt out so, I wanted to make sure the new bolts would torque and seal. I magnitized a screwdriver to pull any metal shavings out while I could. I torqued the head to specs ( 55- 60 ft. lbs ), Ran the engine for 15 mins, then retoruqued . Driving it home, ran out of gas. Called Pop, he ran a gallon of gas to me, followed me to the gas station, then followed me for 2 miles till I waved him off. Drove home no more problems. I will drive it some more then retorque again. This one of the reasons I bought the truck, it's simple ( like me ) and I can repair most break downs. Once again, Thank you EVERYBODY for the advice and information, This Forum is the greatest and the members are the best . Thanks, Rod
  23. I only replaced the head bolts because 8 of them were eaten away from the water passage and one broke in the block. My Pop was surprised I replaced them also, He has always reused them, never replaced unless needed. I had an extra $ 42.00 so I did it, Besides it allowed me to cut off the heads of two and made locating pins for the head gasket and head to line up on. I will clean the treads with a die and put them in stock @ Pop's, Never know when you need a 7/16 - 13 Bolt. Thanks again EVERYBODY for the GREAT advise and help !!
  24. LOL I tell my wife " It's not a good day unless I bleed or get cut on a job " . She bought 3 full first aid kits for me, one home, one in my truck and one in the car. I keep running out of Band Aids.
