  1. Any links to sites with the Mopar alternator of which you speak, Zen Master???
  2. Looks actually mean little....ease of installation and reliability most important.
  3. My '48 Dodge Flathead 6 had been modified by the previous owner to 12V system, remaining a postitive ground. In the last 5 months, I have had two dead batteries. I am not concerned about maintaining all original equipment. Modifications have already been made to accomodate the 12 Volt change. So...I am upgrading to an alternator [ rather than generator ] along with switching from a positive ground to a negative ground. I have seen literature and web sites listing the changes necessary to convert both. What recommendations are there for possible alternator options?? I have seen listed on several sites the use of a "One Wire Alternator". Also, the General Motors 10SI unit. Any idea, tips on making this transition easier. Thanks, Mike My present generator:

  6. I think the little bast***s stole a blackberry pie from my back porch!!!.....or maybe it was droppings from one of those pesky migrating armadillos !!!
  7. Yesterday, I had my Dodge parked where I thought it would be safe for a couple of hours only to find I had been bombed twice by bird droppings "laced" with blackberries [ could've been blueberries...no difference in effect ]. I washed it off immediately only to have very obvious blue stains on my Panama Sand painted body. I tried bug and tar remover with no success. This morning, I was able to remove the stains completely using a polishing pad dampened with water mixed with a small amount of car wash detergent and Mequiar's #2 Fine Cut cleaner. I applied while the areas were wet, used very little hand pressure doing it by hand and only hit the areas of stains. I washed the areas off again and waxed them. Not a trace behind........ Mike
  8. I love her work....and, I like her choice of cold brewskies, also!
  9. Spoken wisely, grasshopper!!!
  10. I did as Jersey suggested...local shop rebuilt mine in Marietta, OH: cleaned, new brushes, new bendix, even painted it....$150.....looks brand spakin' new. Turnaround time was 48 hours. Mike
  11. Similar issue related to the original post..... I installed a new tank along with a new sending unit. The ground lead terminal I grounded to the trunk floor....the other terminal I connected to the original line that was connected to the original sending unit. I have a 12 volt system....my fuel gauge is showing nearly full and not budging when I know it should be. I purchased the 12-6 volt reducer....can I connect the reducer in line at the sending unit under the cover just as the lead is leaving the sending unit???? Thanks, Mike

  14. It appears it has a red cover from these photo of a 46 Dodge convertible on sale on ebay now. Mine does not have the spot light....so I don't think it is related to that feature. Mike
  15. Bob, That's was one of my thoughts....however, it doesn't turn on or off with engaging the emergency brake....it only turns off and on when the metal base of the bulb is turned about 30-45 degrees. It has the same base flange as the starter button and looks as if it is an original manuf. part, not a modification. Mike
  16. I recently purchased a 48 Dodge Custom convertible. To the left of the starter switch button is placed a light bulb. It works fine by rotating the metal base of the bulb. There is no cover over the bulb. Is this additional map light?? Any ideas on what the cover of this bulb would look like??? Thanks, Mike
