  1. Nice score. They are torque monsters!
  2. We pay (for the moment) 0.067 per kw in Central Ory-Gun.
  3. Very stout engine, gobs of low speed torque in the truck application. The are some issues with the early years cylinder heads developing cracks. EngineRebuilder Magazine has printed several articles about this engine, sorry, don't remember the Month/Year. When I find one at the right price it goes into the shop, then I'll figure out what to do with it...
  4. Oh, how I wish you were closer........
  5. Quality Engineered Components has an adapter for the Late Torqueflight to flat 6 & 8 inliners. The adapter will mount the small block 904/A500 or the 727/A518 as well as the small block manual bellhousing. email to: bacchus_lane@yahoo.com phone inquiries to 888-Hemi-Parts (888-436-4727) M-F, 0700-1700hrs. No special parts or odd-ball modifications, just nuts and bolts and all MOPAR.
  6. I have adapters for the flat-6 & 8 to Torqueflight and Mopar 4-spd bellhousing. For the V-8 you need a different adapter. I have those also.
  7. In the 'old' days (before I went Diesel) I drove ½t trucks and towed and hauled alot of various stuff. Now, with the newer ½t trucks, you get great interiors, seating for 5, good braking systems and the all have the capacity to drag a trailer and some get decent mileage empty. If you are looking to buy a truck this appears to be a good time. I have several late 90's Dodge quad cabs advertised for as little as $5k. Although the mini vans get great fuel mileage it makes only marginal difference unless you do alot of driving. Consider that for a small penalty in the cost of fuel you get a bit more steel around you and you can tow/haul your coupe. Added bonus is if you need or could just use 4wd in the winter. My $0.02.
  8. Unfortunately for you folks in the Frozen North, your government (elected by you) has decided that you don't deserve the right to self defense and, certainly, should not have the ability to aid someone else under attack. With minor exception, folks down here have the option to own and carry weapons for personal defense and for the defense of others. That individual should not have been allowed to leave the bus alive, especially given that you folks don't want to keep them locked up forever in lieu of a public hanging. My $0.02. I am a bit surprised that the administrator even allowed your thread to post.
  9. Check with Mr Coatney about the possibility of flywheel to starter problems with the big crank.
  10. Just a 'heads up' regarding the planned swap. Recall that the long stroke engines have a thicker crank flange and will test you when you attempt to put all of the 218 parts on the back of a 230-251-265. For whatever reason, the additional material was added to the trans side of the flange and thus moves the flywheel and clutch away from the starter.
  11. Does anyone have a source for 53 Dodge floor pans, used or repro??
  12. ALL Hemi engines and their Poly derivatives including the Spitfire have the ID number stamped on the TOP, FRONT, of the block just in front of the valley cover. If you find the ID at the cylinder head parting line then it is not, obviously, a Hemi but rather an early A series. The Spitfire was used in the Windsor and Saratoga lines, 1955-1958, 331 ci and 354 ci. Plymouth used a Dodge engine in 1955-1956, 241 ci and 260 ci, overlapping the new for 1956, 277 ci. Chrysler Valve covers could say: Chrysler FirePower; Chrysler Marine; Chrysler Industrial; and if a truck engine, the vc are plain. Desoto valve covers are either FireDome or FireFlite. Dodge valve covers can be embossed or plain, some plain covers will still have remnants of a decal. Send a PM if you need more info or help with ID numbers. Because of the multitude of applications the ID list is very long. Gary
  13. Looking for proper engine color(s) for the 53 Dodge 241. ie; block, valve covers, pulleys. Help will be much appreciated by the car's owner.
  14. Regardless of what you are trying to sell the scammers are everywhere and I'd like to know when the 'season' opens, gggrrrrrrr. The only way to not get screwed is to trade cash for title. Stay far away from the email that says anything about a shipping agent.
  15. ...my wife's xj-8 gets 30 mpg on the road...
  16. welllll, what are you working on ????????????????
  17. Remember that the 'long stroke' engines like the 230 have a thicker crank flange that can be an issue if you are mixing and matching with something like a 217. The problem being that the extra material was added to the flywheel side of the flange which then shoves the flywheel back and if you are using the 'other' bell then you have starter engagement problems. Mr Coatney detailed this problem in his swap of a few years back. Sorry, I don't have the link.
  18. Captian Neon, RIGHT ON !!!! Crazy, instead of corn, try Scotch Broom. The oil literally coats your skin when you handle it. ...and Mr Gore and his lot have yet to explain why Mars and Venus are warming at the same rate as planet Earth....just wish I had a clue exactly what the enviro-wackos were really up to so they could be dealt with. And a big THANK YOU to our administrator for allowing this thread to continue.....something not allowed on other sites regardless of how informative or thought provoking the content might be.
  19. Alot of meaningful and interesting thoughts, hmmmmmm. I'll toss in my $0.03 worth (inflation, ya know..) The US is the world superpower, like it or not. The military runs on oil. Oil for trucks, oil for tanks, oil for aircraft carriers. When the rest of the world runs out we will still have ours. No, we may not have enough for our beloved hobby, but at least we will still be using the English language and debating the merits of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. What we need is a Congress that is not in the hands of the far left telling us that nuclear power is a bad thing, telling us that animals come before people (read that as hydro-power being bad...), and telling us that the free market is now a bad thing and they, Congress, will look out for us. One of Ronald Reagans best quotes is something like; "When you hear, "Hi, we're from the government and we're here to help", be afraid." The price of oil will never go down, but we can curtail alot of wasteful use, move into other energy fields (I'm willing to burn coal to heat my house if it means putting fuel in my truck), and try a little harder at conservation. This election cycle, my only measurement of any candidate is their position on my personal freedom or their attempt to limit it. I will vote Freedom First.
  20. If you are inclined to use the Exploder axle, then remember that all of the 'Sport' units (2-door) had posi in stock form....
  21. Wow, someone else actually listens to Tom Waits ?? How about Sandy Denny or Fred Neil?? Oh, dodgepu1946, I think perhaps you mean 'elusive butterfly'.....
  22. Make sure, double sure, that you have more air available than what you will actually use. Most small compressors are not rated for continuous operation, they need 'off-time' for cool down. Check the data plate for air requirements noted as CFM. Ignore the HP wars that most retailers like to engage in because the motor size is determined by the pump size. Make comparisons based on 'xxx' cfm at 'xxx' pressure. Do not be surprised at how much air a blast cabinet consumes.
  23. 'Lock 'n Stitch' is one of the brands for metal repair. No heating, just some drilling. Check them out if you have a repair project, or ask your local machine shops if they use the product.
  24. ...I still think there is some sorta federal law about those shiverlay swaps...
