  1. That grey 1940 Dodge looks really nice. That is one of the colours I was thinking about painting my '40 but the wife (and I) preferred red. Thanks for posting. Phil
  2. Congratulations Chris. Must feel good to have it back home. Don't forget to throw your 'spare' hubcap into the trunk for your next adventure. Hope the repairs go smoothly. Phil
  3. Thanks Greg. No, they do not announce the points. You have to write to the chief judge to get a copy of the sheet. It's on my to-do list Phil
  4. Here are some photos from Saturday (plus the tow truck on Friday). Phil
  5. Looks like Greg and Chris beat me to report on our gathering. It was great to see these guys again and the cars in the show were amazing. One small correction to Chris' report, my car is a 1941 Dodge (not Plymouth). Although some people refer to it as a Plodge since it is really a Canadian 'Plymouth based' Dodge. Carol and I made it back home with no problems although can't say the same for our way out on Friday. We were on our way to Buffalo, only 4 miles from home, when the fuel pump failed. The infamous arm pin worked it's way out. Flatbed back home (after waiting 80 min. for the tow truck) where I installed a new pump and 3 hours later we were back on the road. The rest of the 135 mile round trip was uneventful. Haven't calculated the gas mileage yet but it is nowhere near Greg's. Oh yeah, I did receive the HPOF certification for my car as did Cliff with his '64 Studebaker. I'll post some pics once I get them downloaded. Phil
  6. Hi Andy, The centre grille piece is not pot metal. Looks to be pressed stainless. I bought mine off eBay many years ago. The windshield divider question is interesting. My '40 is chrome finished while my '41 is flat black. The '40 has the stainless trim around the windshields while the '41 does not. Phil
  7. What I did was to turn the rubber boot inside out, then pull it on (large end first) until the small end is in place, then pull the wide end back over. Still not easy but it did work. Phil
  8. Note that the original configuration did not connect to the oil filter bracket itself. It connected to a small lever that was installed onto the rear stud where the oil filter bracket also attached to (as per flathead1941's first post above). If the engine originally came without an oil filter I don't know if the stud was still there or not. Phil
  9. The other end is exactly as you have it. It's into the small hole in the little bracket attached to the rear oil filter bracket bolt. In my case the little bracket is missing so I just have it hooked onto the oil filter bracket (see photo). Phil
  10. Sorry, no extras. Even so, my Canadian '40 Dodge 'Custom' has a different set of bumper guards than you need. Phil
  11. This is a difficult area to photograph since the oil filter is in front but here are a couple of pics of my '41 Dodge if it helps. The spring is a replacement. Phil
  12. Greg, I don't think that you can enter on the day of the show (entries closed on April 30 and you also have to be an AACA member). Better give them a call to make sure. I suspect that there will be a parking lot contingent of old cars though. Look forward to seeing you again. My Tempest is still in pieces so I won't be doing the Woodward cruise this year :-). How about your Studebaker truck? Phil
  13. Yes, I do have metal ones but the repaint does not have the wheel stripes which could also be a deduction? Phil
  14. No problem Chris. My '41 has the original upholstery, in fact the interior is all original. The problem I see is that it has had one repaint in 1985 which will garner a large deduction. Just doing it to be part of the show. The first AACA show that I have ever entered. Phil
  15. FWIW, I installed the trim after installing the windshield (and rear window) on my '40. I just used a squirt bottle with soapy water to help lubricate the groove before pressing the stainless trim into place. Phil
  16. Ha!Ha! Yeah, a bit of gloss but next time it gets the flatter looking silver paint. Phil
  17. Here is the Canadian D24 engine in my 1940 Dodge. It was rebuilt in about 1951. This is a 2010 photo. It definitely needs new paint now. This is on my long to-do list. Phil
  18. I can only say that my '40 Dodge sedan does not have any wood in that location. Don't really know about coupes though. Phil
  19. Under the back seat of my '40 Dodge ......very old condoms in a metal container and I still have them Phil
  20. Don, that is an excellent video. I purchased my first Hot Rod magazine in 1958. Although I switched over to stock antique autos in about 1968 I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for posting. Phil
  21. O.K. I'll play. This photo shows all four of my old cars. Clock-wise from top left: 1. 1940 Dodge D14 4 dr. (Canadian car). In family since 1940 and I have owned since 1968. 2. 1941 Dodge D20 4 dr. (Canadian car). Original un-restored. I have owned since 1973. 3. 1965 Corvair Monza 2 dr. coupe. My son purchased in 1994 and I have had since about 2000. 4. 1964 Pontiac Tempest 2 dr. post, 326 ci automatic. Owned since 1981. Currently under restoration. 'Was' a very rusty car. Just put body back on frame. Phil

  23. With my 1940 Canadian Dodge (D14) I removed the hood and the fan and then the radiator bolts. Lifted straight out (some cursing required). As mentioned above, the four fan bolts are tricky but I just used a small box end wrench and managed to get them out (and back in). Phil
  24. Ah!! You are correct Don. We need a photo of his actual car. Phil
  25. Hi Hannu, I live just down the road from you in Burlington. Good luck with your project. Phil
