  1. The mistake I made 33 years ago was in purchasing my '41 to drive while I restored the '40. We had so much fun with the '41 that the '40 became neglected. To the point that it was over 30 years before the '40 got on the road :-). However, it did get on the road and the only problem now is which car to drive. This past summer it was the newly resurrected '40. Next summer I am trying to comnvince the wife to drive the '41 while I drive the '40. This is a hard sell since I have been reluctant to have her drive it over the decades :-) Phil
  2. Considering the other end of the charging circuit, a friend suggested that I may have a bad cell in my battery. Would this show up with the symptoms I have? Phil
  3. Tim, That's another good idea. I do have a new set of brushes if they turn out to be the issue. Is there any test that will show this other than removing and opening up the generator? Phil
  4. Unfortunately, my '41 is in winter storage. However, I do have another new regulator so I may just swap them and see what happens. Thanks for all your ideas. Phil
  5. Something I have been meaning to ask about for several months now. On my '41 Dodge the amp meter stays at or near the '0' mark when idling and cruising (maybe 1/2 the needle width towards the +'ve side). However, on my '40 Dodge the amp meter jumps between zero and the +'ve side irradically. It has a recently new regulator (I did polarize it) and Amp gauge and the generator seems to be doing O.K. at keeping the battery charged. Any ideas why the difference? Both are 6 volt +'ve ground. Phil
  6. For what it's worth, I used AB's rubber for my windshield and rear window. Never again. They were a real problem installing. Fit is terrible, especially the front which comes with a separate centre piece. I had a local auto glass outfit come to do the install since I didn't want to break the new glass. They spent over 1/2 day doing it and cursed the whole time. No fun. Next time I will pay the extra and go with Steele. Theirs are the all one piece front. Phil
  7. The material was purchased through LeBaron Bonney. It's in their catalogue. The problem of course is that it isn't cheap:( . Phil
  8. FYI, here is what the interior in my 1940 Dodge 4 dr. looks like. Phil
  9. Why didn't I think of that? I'll give them a try. Thanks, Phil
  10. Does anyone know who sells 6V solenoids for the BW OD transmission? I have been searching for one ever since I discovered that mine wasn't working in late August. Have come across two used 12V ones but no 6V. Thanks, Phil Ellis
  11. Thought I would try out the new forum with a test photo or two of my '40. Normally I don't like change. But, so far so good. Phil
