  1. Always wondered why everybody goes with an automatic when dropping in a big engine. I assme it is just easier because of the pedals. But I would think a hot rod really should have a 4 speed.
  2. I should add that weather is the critical factor here. If the weather is great then a Saturday is better than a Thursday (like last year) that is pouring. If the weather is really bad just pass.
  3. Wed & Thursday are the prime time days. If the weather is good then Friday will be a good day too. Saturday the swap meet is 50% or less filled as many vendors are gone. Harrisburg is a fine place to stay and not a bad ride at all. I have stayed at the Lodge for many years which is only a couple of miles from the field and the site of the RM auction but it is pricey.
  4. Did it match your expectations? Looks great in the pictures.
  5. Cool. I hope the garage has heat. It was -5 in Mass yesterday morning and that really wasn't fun.
  6. Back in 1980 my dad and I put a "modern" 8 track am/fm in my 49 Special Deluxe. We used a 12 volt converter and it all worked great. I had a spare radio face plate so we did some minor cutting to get it to fit but it looked pretty good and could be put back to stock with no problem.
  7. I had a local guy in Mass do the radio for my 40 Graham. It was a bit more pricey than what you are saying. however, it is bone stock in appearance inside and out, still runs on 6 volts but is a complete modern am/fm stereo inside. I think it is a great idea for guys that are trying to upgrade but keep the stock appearance. I remember as a kid all the cutting of nice dashes we did to put in POS stereo systems that looked like crap.
  8. I watched a couple of episodes on Thanksgiving while I was cleaning the family room in prep for the get together. It is a typical "reality" show which means the entire thing is scripted and staged. That said, I thought it was interesting. The guy is definitely a used car salesman but he seems to have some charm.
  9. I always like when I see the eBay or CL ad with the car still on the trailer for the quick flip!
  10. The museum is there and what is left of some of the Auburn factory buildings. Duesenberg was built in Indy & Cord in Connersville. The "ACD" factory is actually in Broken Arrow OK and has been there since about 1961 when Glenn Pray bought the company.
  11. This car was on ebay last month or the month before. There is a bone stock rust free originally from New Mexicot 51 that was for sale in Missouri last winter. Seller was a nice guy and had owned the car for 20 years, the guy before him for 20. He wanted 17,500 and it was taking him some time to sell it.
  12. The early mechanical speedo T5s are much sought after by Hot Rod guys. I believe those are pre-98.
  13. I have been going on and off since 1987 and religiously the last 13 years. It is almost a lock that every third year is a rain out. If you looked at the weather map on Thursday or Friday the entire eastern seaboard was dry except for a 50 mile square hurricane centered over Hershey.
  14. If you can't find someone on the forum, try these guys. I have not used them (I tried but they had nobody near my car) but they have been highly recommend. Good luck. http://www.i-van.org/
  15. I have to stop at 1990 but I think this is accurate. I'm taking poetic license with the first one because the title was never in my name but it was my first car and I drove it a lot more than most of the other ones in the list. 1. 49 Plymouth Special Deluxe 2. 69 GTO Convertible 400/4 speed. 3. 80 Z28 350/4 speed 4. 86 Cougar Bostonian 5. 71 Mustang Mach 1 351/4 speed 6. 69 Shelby GT500 7. 70 Boss 302 8. 68 HEMI Charger
  16. This is an interesting topic. Does anyone know for sure if the running board delete was available on the Dodge/Plymouth in 40/41?
  17. The other thing I wanted to throw in is the value of something changes based on where it is and when it is for sale. On a particular day at a particular auction where two particular guys have been drinking too much at the open bidders bar you may achieve a price that is not reproducible every again.
  18. People make the mistake of thinking the money they have into a car has some correlation to its value. They are two distinct things. I can totally see how you could spend 100k on a professional restoration, but you still might only have a 25 or 30k car when you are done. It can be a sobering experience.
  19. When I saw that I assumed he had mistakenly added an extra zero.
