  1. O.k. here is the problem. Tried to connect the horn and it started to sound. Pressed the horn ring and it stopped. Removed the horn ring and medallion and all looked fine. Put it all back together. Started to connect the horn wires again and guess what, beep!!! Has anybody had a problem like this and if so, how do I fix? Could it be the relay? It appears to work in reverse. I press the horn ring and it stops, release the horn ring and beep. Thanks.
  2. was so funny when my wife saw my 2nd 1947 Plymouth in the driveway. I was across the street having a refreshment (hic) with my buddy when she came home from work. Got off her car and started walking to the front door. stopped dead in her tracks, backed up 2 steps and looked in the driveway at my latest acquisition. took 1 step towards the front door again, backed up, looked further down the driveway and saw 1st Plymouth, looked at the 2nd one, shook her head a couple of times then walked into the house. Sooo I stayed across the street for a bit more of liquid courage then went home. The only thing she asked was, "what is that in the driveway"? after i told her about the great deal, $800.00 busks, and that is was a 4 door that would make it so much easier to load up the grand kids, (first one is a coupe), she shook her head a couple more times and that was it!!! WHEW!!!
  3. On my 47, there are 5 wires that go from underneath the dash, through the pillar that is used for : 1 for the brake light, 1 for the running lights, 2 for the fuel gauge and 1 for the dome lights. I used a test light to identify what was what, ran 6 wires from the trunk, through the pillar, ( using the old wiring to pull it through) and connected using connectors and shrink tubing. As far as the corner lights to work as running and brake lights, went to the junk yard, pulled the lights from an chevrolet step-side, removed the 2 light wiring and ran it right through the original housing. works great. the reason i ran 6 wires is that i may want to install turn signals one day. by the way, also, since i don't have the headliner installed, going to run my speaker and power wires for the stereo. also ran the hot dome light wire to the trunk to use for lighting up the trunk area.
  4. Check out the picture. re-wired the back half of my 1947. got brake lights on each side and converted the center light to a running light. I think it looks great. sooooooooo easy!!! IN RUST WE TRUST!!!
  5. how does dual pipes, stock manifold out the rear sound in comparison with a split manifold?
  6. Kragens still sells the 1154. bought some today.
  7. Started to do what you are thinking about replacing the wiring on my sedan. then took a close look at what I have and actually got all the lights working. Basically I have a few cracked wires that are grounding or touching each other. I bought some wire, connectors and shrink tubing and gong to tackle it. I also change the tail lights to be both running and brake lights. The middle light will be a running light only. Very easy to convert. I went to the junk yard, bought dual wire light housings, remove the dual connectors and inserted them into the tail light housing. They work fine. Just takes time.
  8. Totally agree regarding the responses. They have all been great giving me the choice use some ideas here, some there and I am quite confident things will work out well whichever way I go. A cold Blue Moon to you all!!!

  10. after so many sparks, hot terminals and rolls of black tape, I am done with trying to repair the wiring!!! Any ideas? Want to rewire the whole enchilada.
  11. I'm in the San Jose Area. Engine running but not rolling now, maybe in a couple of months.......
  12. Oh, and no, the bat didn't come with it, ha ha ha. The radiator in the pic is for my coupe. Going to pick up the rebuilt motor for that one on Monday.
  13. Thanks for the comments. Excluding the upholstery, most of the work will involve a lot of elbow grease and I guess I will throw a sanding party, which will include a few tri-tips and maybe a cold beer. Will need a front and rear window crank and hood ornament plastic.
  14. Was looking for parts for my 1947 Special Deluxe Club Coupe on Craigs list when I saw an add for a 1947 Plymouth for $800.00. The picture showed the front end and grill to be in good shape and I thought, trade material for parts for my coupe. Called the number, got the address and went to take a peek. Well, it took me about 10 minutes to tell the guy at the impound yard "I'll take it" I asked him how much time I had to get it out because I needed to borrow a trailer from a friend and he said he would have his driver deliver it!!! Got it home, and the next day got it running. Adjusted the tappets this last Sunday and the dang thing sounds great! All complete but desperately needs interior to be done. I thought this was a good find.
  15. What a wealth of information. I think I will try the cut spring method and see what happens. I don't have the engine installed yet so it will be awhile before I see the results. I remember the time I heated the springs on my 1959 Impala. Didn't even make it home before I was stopped by the CHP. Got a fixit ticket. Didn't have money for new springs so I removed the heated springs, put in 4x4's to raise the car. Found a cop and had the ticket signed off. Man, what a ride that was. After the ticket cleared I put the heated coils back in. Stayed off the freeway. Was never bothered by the local cops though. Thanks alot guys for your help. This is my first Plymouth.
