  1. Thanks for the info. Regarding GA - I did the research before registering my 67 Fairland tag. I live in a small community and I am sure the process is much easier here vs large cities. I basically took pictures of the 67 (and 48) tags found on the internet (GA DMV site) to take w/me in order to verify the refinish tags matched the original color schemes when comparing the tag to the pictures. We have many gear heads in this area so our County Tag Office is use to the process. A big NO NO is changing the color schemes from the original state colors!!! It is a good thing our county did not want to inspect the 67 tag prior to refinish. Here are my before/after pictures. Note the holes - I filled the holes w/JB Weld - it worked great - love that stuff! Wile they are not perfect, I like saving the cash for other items needed to keep the vehicles on the road.
  2. Does anybody have experience in tag refinish - specific to aluminum? I tried to look this subject up in the tech achieves but did not see anything specific to this subject. I have refinished a couple of 'steel' tags which are much easier vs. aluminum. While not completely done w/the painting, I am pretty happy w/the lettering and can straighten up any bad spots during final cleaning. I continue to try to work out the bends in this tag w/little progress. While it is MUCH better then it was when I started, there has got to be some tricks that I am missing. Aluminum is very soft so it is easy to do more damage then good! Many companies offer this service but charges can exceed $300 per tag and include long lead times. While I believe the charges are justified based on the man hours required, I'd rather pocket the cash and do it myself. Any suggestions would be much appreciated...
  3. My antenna came in the original box w/assembly and mounting instructions however we went by what looked and worked the best because of the length of the antenna when extended above the cab. Plus my antenna had a very long cord so connection was not a problem.....
  4. Car is located in Dawsonville, GA, Hemphills Station at the NASCAR Hall of Fame (home of Bill Elliott)...... Truck is located at 2 antique stations: one in Dawsonville, GA different pumps, the other in Cumming, GA. Many old stations in N GA being remodeled these days. Great for old car pics........
  5. Depending on LA or Detroit production facilities, this was about the time the antenna's were moved to the top of the fender vs the side (same for vacume or electric wiper motors!). Based on my LA production run, the antenna's were still on the side. Look for a large orange ball on the top. As my 9 yr old say, about the size of 4 skittles!
  6. I had a 48 Georgia license plate on the front bumper plate but am about to register it as my primary tag (just about done w/the refinish - the aluminum tags are much harder to refinish vs steel. I got lucky on the antenna, found a NOS in the box w/all original printed instructions in the original box - at a flea market! Pretty cool w/the large orange ball on the tip. When extended it is 4'. This one was a 5 yr project but almost done (still need to do the wood bed slats) but am putting my time in the 67 Fairlane so my 2 daughters and wife can cruise w/me. The 4 of us are TOO big for the B1C. Love the Fairlane but the B1C is my first love and daily driver when the sun is out.
  7. I found a good condition Philco 802, sent it to Bob's Radio and had the internal changed to a FM board. Now AM still works (but I never use it) and I have FM/Stero. Sounds and looks original/new. I also found a side fender antenna to complete the original look. Cost more but worth the cash...
  8. I have been off line for a few months and since I finished the majority of my truck rebuild and moved on to a 67 Fairlane. I and am having a hard time navigating on the new site (I realize it takes time to learn the new version so I am not complaining). I used allot of the reference material when I started my rebuild of which some seems to be missing and I do not see the private message option anymore. I do not feel I have spent enough time to offer positive or negative feedback however I will say that the members have been very helpful to me and I appreciate the forum where like minded people can share ideas and solutions. Thanks for all the assistance...
  9. OK and thanks - I just ordered the reducers from 'Classic Parts'....... Thanks for the mounting suggestions. Maybe this will solve the wiper issue. BTW - I replaced the Runtz on the fuel gauge - seems to be working fine now. Guess the first Runtz was bad. This electrical part of the rebuild has been very challenging as I am TERRIBLE w/amps, ohms, etc! GLAD TO HAVE THIS SITE FOR ADVISE/SUPPORT! I have been off line for a while and still trying to figure out the new site........
  10. So you used 2 runtz for the wipers - one at the motor and one at the switch? I tried this but the voltage is holding at 10.8?
  11. I converted my truck to 12V but still have 6V wiper motor. I tried a runtz reducer but it got hot/FAST and the wipers were VERY/TOO fast so I disconnected the motor before I burned it up. Do I need 2 reducers? Same for gas tank, the gauge is still 6V, what can I do to get my gas gauge working? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...
  12. I need to reduce the voltage going to my wiper motor. I tried a runtz reducer but the the voltage will not reduce (I tried a 2nd one in case the reducer was bad). Any suggestions on what I need to reduce the voltage? Also, I reduced the voltage to the gas gauge. It worked for about a week but is now not working. Does anyone have any suggestions? The truck is a 1948 Dodge B1C
  13. I have a friend that has a 53 B4 and had an extra RS visor sitting in his shop so he gave it to me last weekend. The same person that I posted his engine/tranny for sale. Finding the right side is just like winning the lottery! Congrats on your find...
  14. I have converted my truck to 12V however my wipers and gas gauge are still 6V. I have tried a ceramic and runtz reducer but can not reduce the voltage in the wiper motor (so I have not hooked up the wipers since the rewire). Can anyone suggest a reducer so I can get my wipers operational? Also, my gas gauge worked for 2 weeks arter getting the truck back on the road (I reduced it with a runtz) but it is no longer working. Any suggestions?
  15. Is this the same radio that fits in my 1948 Dodge B1 C? I found one cheap at an antique store and did not buy until I consulted w/the experts! Please advise the junior/junior member....
