  1. I picked up a 54 Savoy 3 on the tree. Late 54 motor (230) and these numbers on the transmission. The car was driving fine, but shifting into third was not happening...you would end up in first. Sensing an adjustment issue, we adjusted this linkage, and the car drove and shifted perfect, for a while. It started doing the same thing again. I then fidgited again and it works, sometimes. Any other ideas? You can only adjust the nuts so far.
  2. You can see the studs visually. Spray some WD40 of some sort to soak the studs and anchors...easy does it!
  3. look up in the tail gate....should be some sort of anchor. Barellhead clip etc.
  4. I put Shell 10w-30 in mine. Also have used Citgo SAE 30 No Zinc addatives for me.
  5. I would not add it. Did you ever pull the oil pan? Even with the filters they have a layer of muck in them. You can feel the muck if you stick your finger in the oil drain plug hole, but dont get it stuck, use your little finger. If anything I would pull the pan and have it cleaned, then do a motor flush.
  6. I find that the really young kids, and older folks really get a kick out of vintage cars. I am sure you made his day!
  7. From diagrams in the manual that plug will allow you to tap into the main oil gallery for a return. I had two motors and each oil filter was hooked up different...you can always hook it up, then if the filter gets hot, then it is flowing.
  8. The vin should be on the drivers side, on the frame. Open the door and see if it is there. I believe the other tag is just a body number tag.
  9. have him dump it off at a storage facilty. They could store it outside until you get it. Should not cost more than $35 I would think.
  10. That is pretty cool! I was lucky enough to clean my 54 tank. But you are right...no after market styles out there!
  11. Gas can sit in the manifold overnight and prevent the car from starting. Just turn over the engine and work out the fuel through the motor, do not pump the gas.
  12. I had a 54 Hy Drive I parted out. Still have the carb (in pieces) draft tube, oil nipple, also have the transmission.
  13. Thanks for the input. I did try the oil trick, and compression stayed the same. I will get some feeler gauges and some tappet wrenches and check it out...
  14. As I mentioned a while ago, the number 4 cylinder on the 52 Dodge has a compression reading of 30. When I had the access plates off, the intake valve was dirty. The car had not been street driven in over 20 years, so the deposits did not happen over night. I was thinking about checking tappet clearances before pulling the head.
  15. Turn the steering all the way...see if that lets you pull it.
  16. Even my P25-3 is swapped with a P25-2. I would keep it.
  17. I ordered a complete set of door and trunk seals from Clesters. With the assistance of my family they went in very well. The lady on the phone was very friendly, and helpful. She recommended 3M Black sealant, which was easy to use. The total bill for the trunk, and 4 doors was $116 shipped. This was one area I was worried about, not anymore. Now I get to worry about putting the front end on. I will add...on the front doors by the latch, there are two clips and a 12 inch piece of seal. I reused mine. For some reason, it looked different. Also, I cleaned up the door panels with some Chlorox spray and a sponge.
  18. My buddy a Furd guy...hates the silver paint.
  19. I used the NAPA one you listed for my Gyromatic.
  20. I think that you should build the engine to factory spec, then change the oil regularly, watch for gas getting in it, and any other issues.
