  1. Thanks for your help, I’ll look for a new sending unit.
  2. Looks like the later style. So, 6v to the SW terminal, get a 1 wire sending unit and connect the GA terminal to it? What should the empty and full resistances be on a one wire sending unit?
  3. I have a few questions about the fuel gauge on my 1948 Dodge Coupe. I'm assuming it was 6v originally, should the fuel gauge be supplied with 6v or some other voltage? I know a lot of later cars used voltage limiters to drop gauge power to about 5v but not sure if anything was used on 6v cars. The original sending unit only had one wire connection but the replacement I got has two. Is it possible to wire this sender to my gauge? I forgot to check the resistance of the sender before I fitted it but did take some readings the other day. With a couple of gallons of gas in the tank terminal one had a reading of 8 ohms between it and ground and terminal two had a reading of 23 ohms between it and ground. The resistance between them was 30 ohms. After adding 4.5 gals terminal one had a reading of 23 ohms between it and ground and terminal two had a reading of 13 ohms between it and ground. The reading between the two terminals was still 30 ohms. What resistance scale is the gauge designed for? Thanks for any help
  4. Thanks for the replies. I checked eBay and there are plenty of blanks so that part will be easy. Are there any markings on the locks to identify how they are coded or will they need to be taken apart by the locksmith? Any tips on removing the locks from the car or is it pretty straightforward? I have the ignition switch out of the car and can't pull the barrel out of the switch because the retaining pin won't depress. I assume this is because I don’t have a key so I would need to grind the pin down with a small carbide cutter if I decide to get a new barrel/key set. Any suggestions of alternative ways to get the barrel out?
  5. I need to get some new keys made for my 1947 D24. I believe the key blanks are Ilco X1199B, does anyone know a good source for these or any cross reference? Are there any markings on the locks that can be used to cut new keys or will they need to be 'impressioned' or have the locks disassembled? Are the ignition and door locks coded the same from the factory? How about the trunk? Finally, any suggestions for a locksmith in the So Cal area who can do this? Thanks
  6. Hi, I need new keys for my ‘48 Dodge Coupe. What key blanks do i need and where can i get them from? Thanks
  7. Thanks, would never have guessed Moggy Minor could work...
  8. Does anyone make poly shackle bushings for the rear of a 1948 Dodge? I'd like to tighten the handling up a bit and the rubber bushings I've used in the past were pretty soft and didn't seem to last long.
  9. Thanks for the advice! I've done a couple of windshields on other cars so I'm not too worried about this one and will definitely be getting some help! I'm more concerned about the gasket for the rear glass, I agree is easier to cut more off than add some back but would have thought it would give problems fitting if I leave it long. Should I be sticking the ends together before I install it or wait until it's fitted and just put sealer over the join? RobertKB - would you happen to know the size of the allen screw? Thanks again
  10. Hi, I've got a couple of questions about my '48 Plymouth coupe. I'm fitting a new cowl vent rubber seal but as there was not on the car I'm not sure whether it's supposed to go on the cowl or the vent flap? I'll also be refitting the front and rear windshields soon - I seem to recall reading that the glass is installed in the rubber and then they are both fitted to the car from inside, is this correct? The rear winshield rubber I have needs to be cut to length, should I cut it to fit exactly around the glass or slightly short so that it is a snugger fit? Finally I was wondering how the door locks come out? Thanks
  11. Any pictures of the installation? Any idea if this would work on a '48?
  12. How's your 'hydraulic computer' working out? Do you have part numbers for the bits you used? Thanks
  13. Just read the whole thread - cool build. Funnily enough I saw Jules up at Kiwi Steve's today and he was talking about when you picked the '40 up.
