Got an oxyacetylene torch? Makes holes in hard metals easily. Cheaper than buying new drill bits. Grinders also do mind hard/cheap metals much either to clean up the cut slag. DJ

Is the back plate also brand new and perfect condition? No rust , lower areas , etc.? Some pumps I have received had the wrong backing plate hole(s) which fit other applications and my used ones where rough condition. So I took the old backing plates and sanded them to clean bare metal (both sides) and primed them with epoxy primer and then used [polyester bondo to make them flat like new. I always use a Non hardening sealer like Permantex airplane gasket sealer on Both sides of a med. to heavy paper gasket I made. No problems with sealer removal at a later date. The mounting bolts also get sealed on the threads with Permantex sealer before bolting pump on. I once tried Hi -temp silicone sealer for the pump gasket and bolts--- what a mistake--- leaked water everywhere! DJ

My 50 would also trip the circuit breaker when lights , heater blower and defrost blowers were all on. Reset and on again for a minute or two then off again. Mine are all on 12 volt however with the heater/blower motors(2) changed to 12 volt replacements. The rheostat resistor type speed fan controls do still get quite hot when in use . I added relays for the high and low headlights which solved my problems. By the way on my 50 the wire diagrams show the cigar lighter is Not fused at all- What fun that can cause. I think the 49 and 50 wire schematics are the same.?. DJ

Ford 9". Getting harder to find and more expensive. Nothin' more to say. The brakes also show that. DJ -
Those springs if new must have been made to support the weight of the rear of pinto at most. They forgot to temper treat them ?? Junk as is for your application. MY opinion. DJ

Advanced in auto terms means Before Top Dead Center (BTDC). motor rotation. Old cars running old low octane gas were often run at Top Dead Center (TDC) (piston at top of rotation or even after reaching top ATDC)) to prevent knocking. No knocks and a LOW power out put from the fuel. AS fuel quality improved and additives added allowed for the ignition to fire the fuel before the piston reached top dead center of rotation (bdtc) without knocks the fuel actually burned more completely and yielded more power and most often increased fuel mileage It has been Many years since any car needed the ATDC or even TDC spark timing was used. Even the old cars with the ATDC or TDC recommended back in the day now love the BTDC timing as the modern fuels make it run way better. Advance he timing more btdc until when motor is up to temp and doing a heavy pull it knocks slightly and retard the timing until the knock completely disappears. Hope I finally wrote this such that it makes sense. ? DJ

Not an answer to your question but a add-on? Mopar flat 6's were sold for many years after 1960 auto/truck use for commercial uses- air compressors , forklifts (often combined with the fluid drive setup) airport tugs , on and on. Last was about 1967? I believe i read somewhere but many new motors still available in the pipeline for more years? DJ

We sort of, still have one glass company that still will work on old car auto glass install. The big But now is that they will only do it at their shop by appointment. Estimates after being at their shop. Only 2 people left at the company with 4 ;locations in the area.. Do you have all of the proper materials and gaskets for the job the receptionist asked? The company name is Don's mobile glass. Been around for 50 plus years. Started out of the back of a 51 Chevy car.! They do do (mobile) glass work of all kinds but not for old cars, cut flat glass etc, but?. Cost of their work no clue but with no completion I do not expect to be reasonable. Love our old cars but is getting hard and expensive to work on. DJ

How to install windshield trim and rocker panels?
DJ194950 replied to Wood and Steel's topic in P15-D24 Forum
My thinking would be that paying someone with experience and all the tools to remove and do it correctly this go round would be money well spent. If the glass and seal were not glued or some sealers used yet - the chances of saving the rubber seal (if new) and Not breaking the very hard to find glass more than makes up for the cost involved . IMO. DJ -
Just be extra careful getting around and pulling parts at the wheel chair wrecking yard as you shop for the parts. It can dangerous! ? DJ

I have sprayed auto paints for years but often has been long periods of time between and the paint formulations change constantly more so in recent years due to environmental rule changes. I also always request the paints data sheet for the paint I plan to use. Used to get from my local paint supplier but all seem to be available online by a search with name of brand type etc. I would think this info would be available on Eastwoods website?. They will give you all the mixture details, gun pressures and distance gun to subject. All are subject to fine tuning by applicator. That is were experience is key. You may need to try and try various mixes, pressures, etc. Learn your own experience. There is no fast and always works rules. It can be fun however to learn how and the end product can be your reward. Painting the final coats are the most enjoyable part of working on cars for me! ? DJ

ANSWERED Rebuilding the 230 - NOS vs New Pistons?
DJ194950 replied to Bob Riding's topic in P15-D24 Forum
The old ads for Mopar made pistons was they were cam ground. I took that that to mean out of round on purpose to make up for the thrust of the movement in the bore and helped with wear/performance?. Is that still a deal that means something.? Did ever?. Cast Repos or Newer NOS, New Aluminum - - still do this? DJ -
My uncle who was up in years always changed his own oil often. But the memory loss with age finally caught up with him and one time while heading out for a trip back east with his and wife's latter 70's (per my Old memory) Toyota motorhome stopped for a night at a camp ground and he decided to change the motor oil. The next day (a Saturday afternoon) out on I 80 near no towns the motor began smoking big time. They really had not traveled far, but I guess too much! They were able to finally get towed to the next small town where the only repair shop was closed for the weekend. At least they were in a motorhome. Come Monday morning the mechanic diagnosed the motor problem. My uncle had not Drained the old oil before he added the new 4-5 qts. of new oil!! Mechanic drained all the oil and changed filter and replaced and all was well again after some run time to clear out LOTS of smoke the motor and exhaust system were finally clean. No long term damage. DJ
