  1. HMM, After rebuilding my 47 I took it to a shop that only works on old or high performance cars. He four wheel aligned, reset everything. When you say it wont re center could there be a little binding? Believe it or not, one thing he did notice and we changed was the relation of the angles of the tie rod ends to the spindles and other connections points. His reasoning was that the car under load, turning bumps parts are moving around. What its worth department.
  2. One more story, dual carbs, exhaust, 3:55 with 15 inch wheels, runs much smoother than when I had the 4 x 16 wheels. I like the 65 mph range
  3. good advice on standing to the side. Sometimes you really have to beat on them to come off. Next time youll be pro.
  4. Been there done that. If you have the nuts off, hit on the manifolds to break to gasket seal. Once its off you will be able to get the studs out. Good Luck
  5. Stay at it, it will eventually come off. From my experience when it does, you will hear it.
  6. I bought one and have never installed it (lazy) want to install for Septembers trip to the northeast. What type of spark plugs did you use?
  7. Great Progress slow and steady you will get it finished.
  8. Just spoke with George Asche, His main business is alternators and generators. They are going to start making units for old mopars. I placed my order
  9. Thanks for all of the tips. Two companies Howard and Vintage Auto Garage have everything needed to make the change over. Brackets, wire, fuse, correct pulley sizes.
  10. Anyone know of a company that makes a conversion kit for the flathead.?
  11. Let me know the details as well
  12. Mark, I have been talking with Greg. Reviewing whats the best way to get my 47 East bound.
  13. Any ideas on updating the bench seat in my 50? Want to stay with the bench, wondering if anyone has found a modern more comfortable option
  14. Update, Rear end is in, upper and lower a arms in, replace the stock s10 steering box 16 to 1 with a 84 camaro box 12 to 1, After 6 months of no activity from the engine builder had to repossess, took it to another shop. Initial tear down just a high mileage 360 motor that while worn, probably still had some life left in it. Pulled all the parts out of storage. All the chrome, new glass, window and door seals, all of the gauges have been restored, cab, fenders and grill already painted. Transmission is being built. Probably by mid june Ill have the drive line complete, hopefully installed. We will then set the cab, fenders and grill. Since I'm going to put ac and power steering in it, pretty sure modification will have to be made. Once that in will pull it apart and rework the cab, firewall, fill in the gas tank outlet and few other things. No new pictures.
  15. Im a believer in new plugs. they may look good. from the what it worth department George Asche recommend I use auto lite 045 in my 47 ps you will probably see your gas mileage increase.
  16. I too have had a heck of time finding true 16" wheels, finally switched to 15 " originals but even that was a challenge to find 4 straight ones. On my current project Im buying brand new steel wheels and adding the clips. Need to remember this was never much of problem for the era when most of the roads where gravel and dirt.
  17. Thanks this is perfect You guys ROCK! I guess that's ok for a 60 plus old guy to say.
  18. I know its been covered before. I want to upgade my 47 to 12 volts. What type of alternator, brackets and voltage regulator will I need. PS, its already 12 volt generator. Mark
  19. Over the weekend able to remove axles, replaced seals, cleaned up the emergency brake, refilled with lube and set the rear end. Now I just need to prime all of the brackets and wait for the motor.
  20. Greg, thanks for posting. Installed the under cab brake pedal, master Cylinder and booster. The pedal and pad look just like the original. They also make a under cab frame mounted battery box, going to check that out. Next step is run the brake lines they offer the kit, going to check that out as well. Must say the parts they make are high quality. We will find out soon enough if everything fits.
  21. Thanks, I try and not look too close at the cost, more the finished product. My plan is to take in several long travel trailer trips. In theory it will be a brand new refurbished truck Just need to find a dealership that will honor the warranty.
  22. Update, Welded in the spacers on the frame to take out the slop on the A Arms, also bought new nuts and bolts, tight as a tick. Ended up replacing all of the bushings, upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods and center link. There was a reason the truck was headed to the junk yard, everything was worn out. Calipers and rotors also installed the 1 1/2 inch billit spacers that picks up 3 inches on the front width and then 5 inches on the rear. Next job is replacing the rear seals on the rear end and then install. Ordered the under floor brake/MC assembly, once that's installed I can run the brake lines. Planning on a trial assembly of the cab and front end while I wait on the engine rebuild.
  23. take some pictures Check out the H.A.M.B site as well. they have more modified knowledge. good luck
  24. I guess I'm taken back by Mr. Adams comments. As long time member of this forum he should know and I would hope appreciate my artistic and imagination on builds and preservations of the Plymouth Brand. To my Knowledge I am the first and only "restorer" that has entered a "modified" Plymouth at a National POC meet to place not only second, then with additional upgrades come back and place first in the original class, after the driving the car coast to coast. OBTW I was recognized at the WPC for P15 Vann award. I'm pretty confident my paint by numbers truck will come out OK. I ll stick with painting by numbers.
