  1. Well, that sounds like a plan. However, to pull the starter I need to take the oil lines loose. I'm pretty nervous about doing that. They look pretty brittle. Unfortunately, I have removed the spring and cap from the post on the back while I was trying to loosen it up to operate. (it was froze up)...Anyway, that little cap and spring are a BOOOGER to get back on...2 hours ,busted knuckles, lots of "choice" words...NADA.. She did run though. I just had to shut it off pretty quick til I can get the starter issue worked out.
  2. Thanks for the responses. Life has gotten in the way of working on the truck much this past week. I got close to firing yesterday, but had to leave for work. I got spark after cleaning/setting the points. I am off work today and when I get some chores done, I'll get her started. I'm very confident she'll start now. My next questions (I Will search forms for answers) will be: how do I clean/change that oil filter where do I get a fuel pump or kit (I disconnected the line for now) will probably need a carb kit too. Not sure I like this starter set up. Does a later model traditional solenoid type swap in? WOW these old truck are cool. I get a lot of compliments on the old gal from the people that come to the ranch.
  3. OK, figured that out, sort of. The button was frozen up. Still not real smooth. Was able to get the motor to turn over...That's a major hurdle. Now I need to trouble shoot the no spark issue. Just ran out of time today...Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll have more questions
  4. OK, Just seems that when I mash down on the rod in the cab to activate the starter, it's not going far enough to contact the switch on the starter. Maybe it needs some more PB Blaster and some adjustment. Given the fact I had the battery hooked up wrong (negative ground). Maybe it was just a blessing....I'll try again tomorrow... I'm anxious. I'm betting this old gal is gonna run.... Then I gotta figure out how to make her stop...That's next. Glad I have a tractor with a loader. I bet my floor jack won't lift bessie.
  5. Getting ready to try to start this old gal, BUT, seems like I am missing something. The Starter rod on the floorboard doesn't seem to connect with the starter. Seems like something is missing. Here is a picture. Am I missing a piece between the rod on the floor and the starter? (I have the cable disconnected)
  6. Well, I had been wanting a BIG truck for a while. I'm a Chevy guy, but I got a steal on my truck and it's virtually rust free. Got it home yesterday. Tried her on my 18' flatbed HA HA!, called a wrecker service to be safe...I bet this gal weighs 8000 lbs. Motor is free, started process of trying to start yesterday. This AM I learned on here I have a positive ground system. Now I am hoping I didn't fry some stuff when I put the new battery in yesterday....Ooops. Anyway, I'll be lurking for a while. I'd like to get the flathead running before I decide on a direction on the project. It's kinda in the wind right now. I'm trying to buy a 55 Chevy 150 car project that I have ALWAYS wanted and have it lined up for monday...If that comes through, the truck will have to wait for any real resto.. Anyway, from what I read, I have a "pilothouse" 1.5 ton flatebed...
