  1. Murphy's Law. Master cylinder bled, fluid to front drum plates then all was solid. So I pulled a drum, removed the shoes, and one cylinder which is frozen solid. That means new cylinder kits and probably new shoes which are possibly drier than a pop corn fart so need replacing plus a lot of hard work probably $350 or more in parts, assuming the cylinders are fixable and then I only have drum brakes! So, Rustyhope will get a call in the morning. The bleed bottle on each corner really is a time saver.
  2. A toggle switch is put inline for manual switching, thus bipassing the foot switch. Question: can that be a spring loaded switch, or does the operator switch the toggle to on then back to off?
  3. To any up at this hour, and all others later.
  4. To any up at this hour, and all others later.
  5. At $50 a pump, I'm not fixing mine. Question, who sells them at that price?
  6. My  truck was that ozidized white, when I wet sanded it this is what I found. Yes, same truck

  7. Maybe my first post did not send. I have three and I need three of the one on the far right

  8. Today I put my extra R10 OD on the work table and bolted on my floor shifter. It is still in the crude fabrication stage but works very nicely. This week end I plan to put it in my suburban and give it a real life test, on the OD. Once accomplished, will pull it, do a cosmetic fab on the parts and sell it. Will keep this shifter for my use. The silver transmission is a standard three speed.
  9. My message box is full, can't figure out how to delete messages
  10. As most know, mine survived a shop fire, I just cleaned it, wet sanded it and I drive it and get raves all the time. Old paint original patina show the trucks history. JMHO
  11. I have this '89 Wrangler dual cylinder mounted in my suburban. Lines are now installed and tonight I lengthened the push rod so it now reaches the wrangler MC. Question: does that MC need to be bled before it will move fluid?
  12. I have five water pumps, probably core value at best. I know cores are required or you pay more for a new rebuilt one, so is it difficult to rebuild one? I certainly could use two spares. I just viewed a video on how to rebuild a water pump. Kits cost about $60 so I will rebuild a couple for ny use. I have a press available so it's just a time item. Good to know.
  13. Shano! Adams is spot on. Flatheads are great engines, but . . . . Pigskin is tough leather, but not a candidate for a silk purse!
  14. Only the tough GET old! The weak always die young, feeds the bottom of the food chain!
  15. The knee is relatively pain free and the leg as well. Via rehab my ROM is now normal, my challenge now is upper leg strength. I cannot get out of a chair or up off the floor without help. Some of that muscle problem is the result of a satin I was taking.
  16. I prefer this one, which I have in my truck.
  17. Well, its crude but it really shifts nicely with a back and forth movement of less than 5". When I discovered the NEED for that washer, above post, it all came together. Now with good shoulder bolts, true connecting rods and levers, brass bushings at all rotataton locations and a nice main shift lever with a knob on the top, it will be very nice, fun to drive, and all that linkage of the "on the post" lever will be GONE! The preceding accomplished, I can install it with the engine and let the good times roll. These creative ideas gobble up tons of time and patience.
  18. I always enjoy the mechanical creativity of folk who live outside the box. I've always admired these people.
  19. IF for any reason you remove this special selector lever from a three speed transmission, or R10 OD transmission, if you do not replace this special washer, lock, and nut as shown, that lever will not engage R and 1st.
  20. I do not like the Y steering wheel because i think it conflicts with the horizontal lines of the dash, so I replaced the top spline with a car spline and now use this wheel. Personal choice I know. Now my speedometer is fully visible.
  21. I just read of your leg problem and now the fatigue factor. I do wish you well. Now 12 weeks out of knee replacement, I too can only work so long, so my shop lazy boy is greatly appreciated and used frequently.
  22. Don, I had that one coming! Doc, I think the powered wiper may have been an option on the option and the basic model may have had an inside handle. LOL.
  23. CHEESE processing plant?? Appropriate! LOL sorry, just couldn't help myself!
  24. "My question: was a rear window wiper an option on Chevy’s? I’ve never heard of it, much less seen one." About the rear window wiper, I'm guess it, like the back up lights, were an option. It was a vacuum wiper so had to be installed at the factory. White walls were later, a rarity in the 40's as I recall.
  25. I'm 79 so I recall some of the war years, the many flights of airplanes to the west coast, rationed gas, tires, sugar, flour, a new '46 Chevy car after the war, no electricity, and like others returning service men who would not talk about what they experienced. Today I cry for what this once great country is becoming. Of all things I read these days, this forum, sans religion and politics, is my lifeline. Getting so anxious to get my '53 Plymouth on the road. Car pic exactly like ours, with rear windshield wiper, backup lights, heater under the passenger seat, but no white walls. My mother died in April of '47, 33 years old, "The best of times, the worst of times"!
