  1. I like that color. Dress up the rims some and drive as is for a while, as stated above. Yet it's your car, maybe your wife can go Mary Kay and paint it pink! LOL
  2. I went 12 volts. I want to have outputs for modern devices. The least expensive EZ kit has twice as many wires than what I need. It would be a lot easier to get a good patient friend and pull and replace the harness a wire at a time. With the steering wheel removed and the post lowered, is easy to disconnect the top screws of the dash and pivot it down. Then all the dash wires are essentially laying in your lap and easy to work. At at least that is what I did, got tired of working on my back!
  3. I would like to use this SUBURBAN name plate but the posts are gone. Glue, double sided tape, ?????
  4. What determines the a deep shine in a coat of paint. The last coat or the combination of layers of paint or is it something else?
  5. I chose a light color wood and stained it before I installed the shovel strips, I then could have stained it with many finishes. I even thought about cutting out space so the strips would be recessed, but did not do that. A hidden benefit of the plywood sheet is that it squares the bed and holds it thusly. whateverm Merry Christmas !
  6. KD, we haven't opened yet, but this morning I woke up with a trigger finger, I hope there is a NRA approved revolver under the tree! Merry Christmas to all.
  7. I put a 3/4" marine plywood sheet in mine, bolted the shovel strips down, and stained it deep brown, near black. It already has badges of honor but will last for many years.
  8. I see no need to boost Rustyhope disc brakes. Regarding the minor fab work. I took my spindles and steering arms to a machine shop, showed them Rusty's instructions and walked out in less than 90 minutes. If I had a bigger drill press I would have done it myself. Best to you on this project which should include a dual chamber MC and all new brake lines.
  9. I will eventually add a BW R 10 overdrive transmission, a quality dash fan, floor shifter for my three speed, door lock on the driver door, I have the mechanism, a custom canvas camper, i have it designed, new cab mounts, 2nd heater dedicated for defrosting, dash camcorder, manifold oven, andcwould like to design a means to lock down the hood wings. There is always some small item to add..
  10. One I'm ready to test while driving is my floor shifter for the three speed transmission and the three speed BW R 10 overdrive. It will accomplish several upgrades that I want. One is to add some modernity to the cabin, especially when used with bucket seats, two it will eliminate all the sometime troublesome rod linkages under the floor, three if I wish, I can option an overdrive thumb switch button and eliminate the floor stepdown switch to name a few goals. It's ready to install, one I'm satisfied with how it works, then I will redo all parts for a professional look. This looks similar to previous photos, but there are some minute yet significant changes.
  11. Yes, on the extended housing. It is the same length as the BW R 10 overdrive. However, I just read the because . . . The convertible and the suburban are somewhat different, I don't recall why. I just reread your post and see you are not working with the flathead six, so my comment possibly does not apply to your question.
  12. I had somewhat forgotten about this engineI bought it and an overdrive transmission. The T in T 124 means it once was in a  truck .but that does not preclude use in cars. Note the split manifold and the tall carburator intake mount, and the clutch  housing .

Will call when others here are awake.

  13. Be thankful you are not in California or the environmentalists would likely require a study of the bats before you could do anything. LOL
  14. It CAN be stock, but it is ill advised. Few do from what I've observed. I would guess that the size, length, etc of the lines were originally engineered such that the front and rear were proportioned. The calipers alone would probably negate the original. There are members who can answer this much, much better than I can. This answer is an unstudied opinion.
  15. On that granary, I agree, put in a high door, store the car there and have blue grass and country/western concerts in the summer with old car friends!
  16. These two door suburbans are very special models. While I like my '53' that rear fender on the earlier years really makes a nice statement of antiquity. Oh, the hood is genius!
  17. What you see in the picture are most of the parts required for a Rustyhope conversion. The parts in the picture cost me $256.00 +\- , add the kit $215 and some additional parts and my Rustyhope conversion cost me around $515.00. I had three bids on the required parts, two at $340 +\- and one at $256 so shop around. I'm not certain what my Cherokee MC and valve so add that also. I did all the work on the new lines as well.It is not an expense, it's a safety investment. IMHO
  18. I bought hoses that fit the calipers recommended by Rustyhope. Bought them at NAPA. I like local service. My second kit from him.
  19. Ed, give it some sunshine and some time and it too will 'patinize' !
  20. I really like that teal and tan color combo. Very nice.
  21. My '53 Plymouth Suburban still has the Mare Island entrance bumper sticker, does that count?
  22. Very nice! My compliments!
  23. You still have a three hour bladder? I can't remember that far back! I know every men's restroom in town. A sudden change in room temperature can get me into a panic.
  24. This cat is fireproof, with his long hair, he is very fire conscious. Safety matches only! LOL
  25. Ironically, he was just trying to help. I love the story, but like others not the results.
