  1. tried welding on two times...all three still broke off the bolt stub...spun off...the one that did came out came out like a dream....there is always helicoil....maybe I can talk the maintenance guy into running the torch ONE more time tho....
  2. just like the trucks here...the old stuff is better!
  3. I've got 3 ratchets to replace and ever time I go in for replacement they "work"....totally pisses me off! Then I take them home, they work for 3 bolts and then spin again! About ready to invest in the expensive good ones!
  4. no dice on the last 3...the first gave me hope....now dashed as bad as the Vikings' Superbowl dreams! I'll take the studs out the carb side and chuck her in the mill after work tonight and drill out the bolts for helicoil...I just don't want to snap and easy out off in there as well!
  5. 1/4 SUCCESS! Welded a washer on, took it to the fab shop and begged the maintenance guy to torch it...and it came free! Now other question is this, how hot should I/can I get the casting? I'm afraid of cracking/deforming it. Red hot? Not red hot?
  6. and this thread comes back.... ok, was getting ready to paint manifolds and was prepping them today and lo and behold, my buddies snapped off all 4 of the bolts between the intake and exhaust manifold flush with the intake manifold (w/o telling me). So before I chuck it up in the mill and machine out the old bolts and try retapping them, a few questions. 1. NO way I'm going to be able to line up the old threads with a tap now...unless someone has a magic trick they'd like to share 2. overdrill and helicoil? 3. other? ah...the best layed plans for Thursday night go awry!
  7. supposed to warm up to mid 50's on Saturday still I think.
  8. first snow of the season here in Minneapolis/St. Paul this AM on the way to woork, rain doesn't blow lke that (even in the 50MPH winds we have right no)...time to get the blower ready!
  9. I didn't see the "made in china" on my book. I saw wisco.
  10. speaking of lights on the back end (turn signals/tail lights)....I know each state is different, but do you HAVE to have them? Anyone from MN know? I TRIED to look up the state statute/law/chicken scratching and found nothing. Do Classic vehicles of a certain age not require turn signals/are hand signals legal enough? I know these trucks came with a single taillight/plate light, but turn signals?
  11. believe me, I've thought of it!
  12. Ah different vehicles
  13. Montana? I've got a multicultural yard, I have the albino squirrel, the normal grey ones, and now a black one! Little Forder's love to dig up the landscaping!
  14. mine only had the one LH thread (driver side lower), the passenger side was all RH threaded
  15. The old stakes were there in mine and they were a snug fit, so I just flattened them like the welsh plug..may be right, may be wrong...
  16. heh, true all that. Besides I JUST got my project to the point I can pull my driving vehicle in the garage again, I wouldn't want ANOTHER one taking up space! As for the squirrels, I'm waging a private war against them in my yard....why is it when you get rid of 4, 8 show up for the funeral?
  17. Eagan eh? Out from under my nose!
  18. the why the H-E-DOUBLE hockey sticks do my old ones have an "L" and "R" cast into them opposite of that? Good news is the rear is together right and I can continue with the front brakes with some confidence.
  19. well ok then, I will assemble accordingly.
  20. ok quick question. In my notes I have the wheel cylinders with the larger bore piston forward and the small towards the rear. While I was out getting some parts, my friends assembled the rear axle with the large bore to the rear. This isn't "right" per my notes, and I'm wondering how much of a problem this is? Please advise!
  21. true here in Minny as well, but with that much torque it seemed to be more like a saw blade than a tire in the deep drifts.
  22. what an odd place for a gas tank!
  23. Love the idea of a crew/extended cab idea...that'd be different. Depends what you are looking for in your final truck. maybe do a soda blast instead?
  24. don't really know what to say, all I see in his future is getting stuck in DEEP snow after he cuts down with those skinny tires!
  25. mine came in the mail yesterday. SUCH a nice book! I drooled over it for a long time last night just reading random bits and wow!
