  1. Very inventive. Say...is the wife out of town?
  2. Very nice Dutch. Lucky guy !!!!
  3. OK thanks. I'm going to just reverse the wires and see what happens.
  4. Yeah man...in 57 and 58 the trucks could be ordered with a 315 Poly V-8. (semi hemI) In 56 they were 269's and in 55 they were 259's and in 54 they were 241's. I have 315's in my 57 1 ton and another in my 58 Sweptside. Look here. http://www.sweptsides.com/main58.htm
  5. Looks like about $509.95 !!!!
  6. I ended up buying them from the guy cause he re measured them and they will fit on my 40 Plym. Hows your back doing Glenn ? Better I hope.
  7. Thanks Tim. One last question. Will I do damage to the gauge or sender if I just reverse the wires as they are hooked up now? I really hate hearing myself cuss real loud in a confined space.
  8. Yeah, but how do I know which wire is meant for #1 and for #2. Flip a coin?
  9. Speaking of 2 wire units. I put a new sending unit in my 40 Plymouth. When removing the old one I forgot to label the wires. I hooked the new one up and it reads all over the place and seems to act more like an amp gauge than a fuel gauge. The higher the rpm's the fuller the tank gets. Hey....Maybe I've discovered the answer to the high costs of fuel????? if I reverse the wires can I do any harm to the unit or the gauge?
  10. OK Grey Beard and Norm's Coupe. It's done. Fast aren't I
  11. OK...OK...I'll get some. I guess I'm remembering the old style metal ones that bolted to the frame and sound like a metal wood pecker.
  12. Actually he has a couple of jobs when a new car arrives. 1st he handles all rodent evictions and then he signals me that the eviction has been completed by hosing down the tires. For some reason he thinks he needs to signal me every day though.
  13. I got these 5" mirrors from J C Whitney and I can see more of what's behind me than with the more expensive 4" peeps. Hmmmm..I'll have to look into their fender skirts for my 38.
  14. Im thinking of getting some fender skirts for my 38 Dodge Coupe and wondered what you guys have found to be the best fit and best deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140096462476&fromMakeTrack=true Here's the car.
  15. OK...I just went out to the garage and removed the tops of the carbs on my 42 Dodge coupe(Stromberg) and my 52 Dodge truck(Carter). Both float bowls are bone dry except for a little gas under the accelerator pump. Enough gas for 1 weak squirt but not enough to get the engine running. Both vehicles have sat idle for a month or more. The truck with the carter carb does have a Carter glass bowled filter right at the carb. The glass bowl is about 1/2 full of gas. The 42 dodge has one of the clear plastic filters hanging down line from the carb about 5". It's empty of gas. The Trucks Carter carb is NOS so it shouldn't be warped but it's bone dry. My truck has always started Right up even after sitting for a couple of weeks. I always thought this was because it has been converted to 12V and turned over much faster. Maybe not. It has that reservoir of gas waiting in the glass bowl right next to the carb ready to be pushed into the carb. I don't know for sure yet if these stock type filters really help but I will in a few months because I'm installing one on each car. Maybe a double gasket would help seal the chronically warping carb tops too. Time will tell. Or....I might have to give this idea up and just install elec. fuel pumps. They sure are noisy though.
  16. I'll do this on my 52 pickup with a ball and ball 1 bbl. It's been sitting for about 6 weeks. I'll let ya know what I found Greg. Today I did go out and remove the air cleaner off my 35 Dodge so I could see how much gas squirted down the carb when I worked the linkage. I had been sitting idle for several weeks. I got only 1 weak 1/2 squirt of gas so I went and tried to start it anyway. No Go ....without help from my well used gas filled mustard bottle with the squirt top. A couple of squirts and she started right up. Today I added another Carter glass fuel filter. I'm going to let the car sit for another week or two and see if she'll start on her own. I'm thinking that the gas will stay in the bowl and will be pushed into the dry carb right away for faster starting. Got my finger crossed !!!! 17. Maybe you put the cap on backwards or you somehow broke the little braided wire inside or you caused the coil wire to come loose or the little spring loaded graphite contact inside the top of the cap fell out or the distributor was loose and the timing changed or....... Gotta catch my breath. Too hard to tell what went wrong without being there and then sometimes that doesn't help either. Keep trying...you'll find it. Does your 230 1 ton truck engine not have the external vacuum advance?
  18. This link still works for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6IPHmJWmDk&mode=related&search=
  19. Mackster, I'm not a member on the HAMB so you might want to tell the guy that is selling them that they are for 15" rims. He's not sure what size they fit. I have a set of these trim rings for 16" rims just like his and they are about 17.5". His measure about 16.5"
  20. Another difference I discovered the hard way is the lug bolt pattern. The 3/4 ton has a larger bolt pattern. Something like 5 on 5 instead of 5 on 4.5.
  21. Thanks for this link Pat! I have been skeptical about what we have been told about the cause of global warming for years. Lots of debates with my brother. Now...if I could find a similar program entitled "second hand smoke, another swindle" I'd be a happy smoking camper.
  22. Hey Ed...I thought you didn't have this problem
  23. I thought of that too Fireball. Wouldn't that be cool if that was all that was needed ! I'm gonna go out and look inside my 35 Dodges Stromberg float bowl to see if it's dry. She's been sitting for several weeks now. It doesn't have the glass bowl filter either and I can just about run the battery dead trying to get gas back into the carb. I have new 00 cables and a fairly new battery.
  24. Jon, When I prime mine I just loosen the air cleaner wing nut and pour about a tablespoon down the center of the air cleaner. No need to remove the air cleaner.
