  1. Uh Oh....it's becoming a Hot Rod.
  2. Most likely 4.11 Bob. Even though this ratio might be stamped on the casing someone could have changed the ring and pinon to a different ratio though. I did this to my 49 Dodge before it was sold. 4.11 to 3.54.
  3. The numbers look a bit optimistic to me.
  4. One of the most common problems with any old vehicle that has been sitting for a long time is the braking system. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder. If there is still some fluid visible you might be in luck. Keep your fingers crossed! For the engine I'd remove all the spark plugs and mix up some gas and oil and squirt a couple of tablespoons worth down each hole. Change the oil in the crank case. Turn the engine over with the starter for a while, put the plugs back in and let it sit for a day while keeping your fingers crossed. Then tune it up and see how she runs. Make sure there is water in the radiator. It might miss for a while due to sticking valves but if there's nothing majorly wrong and your fingers were crossed it should smooth out after it has run for a while and warmed up.

    Any idea?

That's a nice bucket seat Merle ! Ya gonna install 2 when the cab goes back on?
  6. The outer seals I just got from an eBay sale for my 40 were listed as only fitting 36-42 mopars. part # 891437. I took my old ones into NAPA and they searched all their books and couldn't find them. The gave me a phone number for a bearing and seal company and those guys couldn't fend them either. I just checked to see if the eBay seller had any more listed and he doesn't. Darn.
  7. I have a parts washer filled with mineral spirits. Before that I used gasoling, paint thinner and Laquer thinner. You are just trying to flush out most of the dirty dusty oil so any solvent should work fine. Laquer thinner is the fastest but will act as a paint remover too on the outside of the air cleaner.
  8. My 52 has these overloads too. Remember, these truck were "Job Rated" and could be ordered with the overloads. They are stock. They don't effect the ride of the truck when unloaded.
  9. That does look like a nice solid and straight one. Did you see what this one went for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140095410547&rd=1&rd=1
  10. Nice car! I like the black bumpers and the electrical, brake and oil upgrades. That armored ignition cable looks like it needs some attention soon though.
  11. I just installed a set of the outer seals from Andy B on the 40 Plym. The inner flexible material was all dried up and didn't respond to a good soaking in light oil. One of the seals was even drilled off center. I can hear it squeaking on the axle. They are coming off today and going back to Andy B because they are junk. Another set arrived Saturday from an eBay purchase with fat and flexible seals so now I know what Andy's should have looked like. Another satisfied customer.
  12. Finally ! I have brakes again in old Pearl. Thanks for the help. Oh.........Don, if you don't call me Reggie I won't call you Donald.
  13. If the engine has been idle for a while it could be a valve stuck in the open position. Sometimes just running it up to operating temperature while pouring some Marvel Mystery Oil(or equal) down the carb will free it up.
  14. Nice photos Harvey. You've done a beautiful job making the truck like new again. Your grandaughter is awesome too for teaching you a new trick. A fellow 48er;)
  15. Yes ! This stuff and a garden hose hooked to the water heater drain valve does a great job. As close to a real steam cleaning as you can get. Ya might want to wear a glove cause the metal spray nozzle on the hose gets pretty hot. PS. Really like your rim color with the red truck.
  16. Is your truck equipped with vacuum wipers? Sometimes the rubber hose to them is dried out and cracked creating a vacuum leak. Something as simple as this will make the poor neglected thing run like a piece a doo doo. Check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold gaskets and the carb gasket. Check the easy stuff first.
  17. That was Beautiful Normspeed !!! My heart is still racing.[quote=Normspeed;17601](Ahem) Like the unearthing of the entombed 57 Plymouth in Tulsa this year, the BIG RACE is the stuff of legends. At a time and date yet to be determined, Pete and Don will go head-to-head and wheel-to-wheel in a classic shootout to see which is faster and quicker, high tech 230 cubic inch overdrive equipped flathead or the massive torque monster that is the built Chrysler long block big inch flattie. The Blueskies machine is the epitome of precision building, with modern Holley dual carbs and other secret refinements and is rumored to have recently left a trail of bewildered highway patrolmen from Idaho to Bonneville. The Coatney Special is an exquisite merger of the new (T-5 tranny) and the vintage (the owner/driver). The Coatney machine and its driver are said to run on a highly refined form of corn alcohol fuel specially brewed at a secret location in the Tennessee hills. The entire Mopar world waits in hushed and eager silence for the opportunity to witness this epic contest. Did I capture it guys?
  18. Did you check your timing with a timing light? PS...the truck bed is available.
  19. Fill my new master cylinder with fluid and bleed it before installation? I think I heard someone say that here before.
  20. Strange. Of the links you listed Don 2 of them worked for me. Roberts Garage and Post War Heavy Metal. The others didn't or came up with some unrelated page. Weird.
  21. Hey...this is starting to remind me of "Mythbusters" I think I'll try a little experiment to see how long a float bowl of gas will take to evaporate from a NOS B & B float bowl if the top is left just sitting loosely on top to simulate a warped top. Let's see....I'll run the engine up to operating temperature, shut it down and then loosen the top and then check it in a week and note the results. Then with the same NOS carb. I'll try the test again with the top tightened down.
  22. Hey...those are cool. I like the way they swoop up and then end in a point. Moving fast just standin still.
  23. Yeah Brad, you are right....she's been on a trailer for years out of doors. I've never been a fan of fender skirts but they are starting to grow on me a little. I'd hate to buy some and then not like um though.
  24. Thanks Norm. I've got my eye on it.
  25. In 54 Dodge offered the first V-8 in the trucks. It was the 241 poly.
