Maybe it has something to do with what plant the trucks were built in. I have also owned many Pilothouse trucks from 48-52. Approx. 30. Never a 53 though. The 51-52's that I owned never had the dash cut out for a radio. I almost bought a 53 about 20 miles from me just because it had a 610T in it but the timing was not right financially. Why does this Photofact specify for 53 trucks is it ain't so. Not arguing.....just discussing.

CORRECTION....CORRECTION..... I went back out in the garage during the light of day and was just barely able to open the passenger door, because it's a tight fit in my garage, and saw that in fact my 42 does have a serial number on a small metal tag ( 1/2" x 2 1/2") on the "A" pillar. It's been painted over and did not show up to my old eyes in the dim light. It says 30581334 I know that number doesn't help you but I'm just confirming that my car has one there.

I'm not sure but here are the tags on the drivers side firewall of my 42 Dodge Businessman's Coupe. There is nothing left on the larger tag where I assume the serial number would be. I think the smaller tag is a paint code. It says 1069TP0. Are these the tags that are missing on your car ?

I would flush the cooling system and refill to see if this happens again. Maybe, if you are lucky, someone in the past poured oil in the radiator as a sick joke. Your 1939 radiator is a non pressurized one. If you were able to pressurize it to 40lbs you would be looking for a new radiator too. -
