  1. Retired couple years ago from a job that was hard to do anymore due to health reasons. I thought I could find something more hospitible. Thinking of buying cheap houses and flipping them,,but the market is too high to buy and too low to sell. Might have to demo old tear down houses, driveways and garages for beans to eat. Any other suggestions as to what to do are GREATLY appreciated. Unless you are a truck driver or masters degree in whatever field they are looking for,,,jobs are slim. last person said the job they applied for there was 350 applications Its pretty bleak out here,,but living is pretty cheap, when you dont go anywhere or do anything!! I may have to move to Omaha to find any jobs, but it is tough there too,I heard. Guess I spent too much raising my 5 kids all by myself!!
  2. I was wrenching something under the hood and leaning in. dropped a wrench across both battery terminals at once. The kaboom was deafening and the whole top of the battery came off and slammed me right in the face. If that wasnt bad enough the acid was my new eye wash. I really thought i bought the farm at that exact moment. A little while later I felt my arm to see if I was really alive or just plumb dead!! Even with NO top half of the case,,I drove that car to a parts place and bought a new battery,,,after I regained my sight that day!!
  3. This will certainly make for an interesting season of 'Deadliest Catch'. I dont think the boys had enough biz sense yet to run the boat,,nor the fishing sense of where and when. They were too busy spending daddies money yet!! Was a real neat family dynamics tho,,,we will surely miss him. And only wish he could have stayed longer. He lead a pretty hard life!! Lived mainly on cigarettes, caffeine and junk foods!! but he did have an incredible wake up call last year with the blood clot --so that was good ,,,as it wasnt without warning. And he got to tell the boys what his thoughts and plans were. They will be GOOD kids, dont get me wrong,,just a bit of growing yet to do!!!
  4. thank for the reply,,,my goodness that is alot of iron to 'see'. Better question is---do I need to start conditioning now to walk far enough for all this?? How many acres would this many cover?? How many miles of walking is involved with seeing them??
  5. Did you mean there are usually 12,000 cars that attend as car 'lookers',,,or 12,000 cars entered in the exhibit?? Either way thats alot of cars.
  6. In these parts that would come complete with 40-60 mph winds and stack it in 20' plus drifts. Obviously you arent used to that much wind out there or those weakling trees would have been long gone, long ago
  7. as an old farm boy,,,care to elaborate on your handle?? I have heard of thrashing AND cows,,but not so often thrashing cows except for BAD things happening. Congrads on your car, looks good to me. One thing is to be atuned to number of bolts crank to clutch flywheel and also dimple in back side of crank. Found out when I was still wet behind the ears that a plymouth regular clutch motor wont bolt up to fluid drive for those very reasons. Going the other way would work 'maybe'. If my old brain is in gear dry clutches had 4 bolts, fluid drive had 8 or was that 6? Now I confused my old brain. If it has fluid drive now,,I would vote to keep that and use it,,its wonderful and tough. best thing since sliced bread. You have both a stick and a slush bucket in one.
  8. I have heard of putting calves in sacks, but never tried that. the calves I saw were born too big for 'most' sacks I ever saw. Some were 100-125# and pretty strapping big. Even in more modern times I have done the calf in the trunk method. (retired now) People sure look at you funny but it sure works good. You lay a blue tarp on trunk floor just in case,,,but a calf laying down wont mess much if ever. The trick is to get them all laying down at once to get the lid closed. Its warm in severe winter weather and dry and non windy. You see a baby calf all huddled up going down the road in the back of an open pickup and you can see he would prefer a nice cozy trunk. More calves have been hauled in trunks since trunks were invented than you can imagine. I used to have a nice covered unit for the back of a pickup to go to Minnesota and Wisconsin and haul back a load of calves. NOW, the riddle of the day,,,how many baby calves can you safely haul in the back of a 8' bed pickup without crowding or being too loosely packed(they LIKE side by side so they keep each other warm.(these averaged 105 # a piece) So how many calves fits in the back of a pickup??(NO trailer)
  9. I have NEVER seen one before. Didnt even know they existed. Course we are from poor farming country and hardtops werent a priority here back then. Specially IF they cost an extra 100 bucks or more. All regular sedans I can recall from my days of old,,and I drove a few of them back then. Very few biz coupes too as those back seats came out and ALOT of stuff got hauled back there,,,doubled as a poor mans pickup. I remeber being sent to town once to get 'coal' and was instructed to get XXX amount of pounds. A kid has NO idea how much that would be and the yelling got loud when 3 times that was had instead. Lots of livestock was hauled in back seat areas also!!(and trunks) Wish I could find pics of animals in back seat areas, that would be way cool. Sheep, calves and hogs were known to ride to town in style,,,'here'
  10. I never saw one of these before. Is this ad for real or a smoke and mirror?? Did they really make a Bellvedere model in 51??? http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/1578313056.html
  11. anybody see a 69 Camaro on this scratch and dent sale?? a Z-28 or even a big block would be most welcome. IF it was hugger orange and black stripes it would be a slam dunk in MY book. Gosh thos pics are pitiful,,,makes a old car lubber wanna cry!!
  12. IF there are governors on any of them, its POSSIBLE they may have been used on combines also. that side draft carb intake looks just like what they used,,but other things may have as well. As far as I know ag equipment had governors,,,truck and car engines didnt. I dont see one in those pics but my eyes arent what they used to be!!
  13. was inside when she blew a gasket and raised the roof a BUNCH. Look out Frankie,,,she lives in Omaha.
  14. a press works a bit easier and prevents a accidental hammer ding or bent seal
  15. If this were MY project,,,do you have one of those two wheel dollies? or any small trailer even for front end?? then get back end up high enough to clear all bumps with 3 point hitch.(even if it takes a few tries) If this tractor has a loader put round rolling poles or whatever under the frame part with wheels off ground. OR hook the loader to back, lift and back where your going,,its easier than it sounds OR find another tractor loader neighbor for hire and have them hook and lift front some,,one follows other. We hauled 40 foot joists home once by chaining a small trailer to joist most of the way back and front end to pickup box. Down the road at 40mph. try rocking front end back and forth if it pulls hard and doesnt turn. getting the back end high enough is the trick tho
  16. Norm always was pleasant and we talked a few times. Exchanged emails on our common arthritis ailments and cures,,,of which he didnt believe in. My puter harddrive got ate by a virus so first time since Christmas I have been able to be on. This is the second puter friend in two weeks to pass away suddenly. Moral is- dont be my friend!! There never will be another Norm for all his wisdom and strength. May his friends and FAMILY be consoled, he is in a better place!! (and missed here!!)
  17. of a raging blizzard,,,nobody is going anywhere. Never saw the streets THIS deserted. Unknown amount of snow driven by 50mph winds. Already heard of drifts as high as garage roofs. so guess home is as good as it gets. Left over chile from last nite sounds about right. Wouldnt even had Christmas dinner if a friend didnt bring over some yesterday and I saved it till today. He braved the snow and ice,,, but yesterday the wind hadnt kicked in yet. Santa couldnt even Land on the roof last nite as he couldnt gauge the windage correctly. havent felt like going anywhere ,doing anything,,still numb from a GREAT friend passing away Monday. So no problem being snowed in for awhile!!
  18. current "weather" of minus 11 and day before -2 and 50MPH winds driving it into your nether regions,,,made me do it,,,, I spent a couple hours looking around Key West Florida on Craigs list for ideas of 'something' to do down there to support me while being there I vacationed last winter there and LOVED it,,,but looks like an expensive place to visit long term. "Somebody" has to have some ideas of what a fat old retired guy can do to make some money,,,,legally!!! What do snow birds need and desire,,,worse than money??? I am listening,,dont eveerybody talk at once!!!
  19. try using a solid stream of WD-40 as a gas source(straight into the carb top) till yours gets going. Works better than carb cleaner cause it lubes and fuels.
  20. Norm, rusted screws give it up pretty fast when you use PB Blaster or Kroil,,,if your using wd-40 not so much. BUT the secret of getting out the hard ones is to stick the proper screw driver in the slot,,,and rap handle end several times with appropriate hammer and proper strength. if a little rap dont do it rap harder. It does two things, takes the rust dirt and crap out of head end so driver fits head better for good grip,,,and vibrates the threads in the nut portion so the PO goes thru it better and breaks rust bond for the REALLY stubborn ones I have an impact screwdriver which has a rachet action when you smack it,,,never saw one yet that can survivie THAT. It turns and vibrates all at once
  21. That ebola monkey man scam chaser site is the MOST hilarious site and truthful to boot. Little course and graphic material but it says what it needs to!! I knew there HAD to be a way to combat these jerks. good for him!!!!
  22. I just had an ad on Craigs list for a 100 dollar set of OLD kitchen tear out cupboards. The same darn guy wanted those in the worst way to ship back to his place,,,,OKAY,,,,HELLO,,,Do you report those to Craigs list?? Best place for these cupboards would be in a garage or shop and used for clean storage of those valuables. Closing the doors keeps the dust down to a dull roar,,,but NOT in Nigeria. Course he just wants to keep dust off MY money!!
  23. obviously they stock the blinker fluid right between the board stretchers and the sky hooks,,,or they SHOULD!!
  24. Went out this morning and battery charger was charging normal. Jumped in and truck fired right up without doing a thing different. Drove it all over today and battery is still working as it should. still the old optima in there altho I am teasing it abit, cause i HAVE A SPARE BATTERY IN THE BOX,i CAN CHANGE OUT AT A MINUTES NOTICE,,,JUST HOPE IT ISNT IN THE INTERSECTION,,,oops,,,darn cap lock button,,,wish I could disable that thing!! anyway just gonna see how far I can ride out that thing,,or get myself in other trouble trying. Guessing maybe there is just a draw in the pickup cause it sets for a week or so and no go time. Now just to find it!!! UNLESS it is the dump trailer hooked to it,,,do they draw batteries down from that battery charger they have in there??(there is a little lite that says battery charging. BUT if I dont charge up that battery now and then it is dead too!!)
