  1. try this one, least it runs and is not a rust bucket. Just saw this ad on craigs list http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/1823903371.html
  2. looks like a nice 29 Essex coming up on an auction next month http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/1807855344.html looks like a good survivor with a history doesnt say how it runs
  3. used to live on a farm and skeeters carried you away after dark. We always had barn swallows who ate millions of them. Dont know if bats came around,,,but for sure we had a family of owls take up residence in a grain bin(which was a whole new mess) . Everybody was complaining of skeeters and I got hardly a bite. There just were none around,,,but plenty of flies to go around!!!! I saw an ad for some product guaranteed to keep skeeters away. It was a extract or derived of garlic, best cure is take away breeding ground. Tires that hold water or cans jars anything wet. Vegetable oil on puddles and small ponds.. Dirty leaf filled gutters and frequent sprinkles can be as bad.
  4. stop leak can do wonders,,,I would try that first. You can always replace it. If you want the low buck version you can add 2 Tbls of black pepper,,,it works and cures small seeps. Save your money and buy ice,,its gonna get hot outside!!!
  5. make sure pvc pipe is big enough for fittings to go thru. take a hose inside the required length of distance pvc and tap it thru with a hammer after water washes dirt back thru pvc,,,its faster than you think. if its big diameter sharpen the end in so it cuts and throws dirt inward,,,in other words scrape with a knife etc inside edge away on leading end of pipe and use wood 2 bye 4 to prevent cracking of pipe,,push and pound when it goes easy,,not when hard. put his plastic pipe right thru yours
  6. dig a trench out from there and wash next size PVC pipe big enough to run gas line THRU it,,quick and easy and no block disturbed, are you using buried copper?
  7. http://www.nebraskastudies.org/0800/frameset_reset.html?http://www.nebraskastudies.org/0800/stories/0801_0117.html there is another reason to remember and be proud,,the 'Canteen' who served 6 million men and women going off to war,, 10 minutes to fame.
  8. I had something sim once and found my flex fuel line before fuel pump went bad. Specially if you are using old rubber NOT compatible with ethanol additives in gas. it can be sucking air thru a crack OR be partially blocked off inside allowing slow go but not full speed.
  9. what is the stock drivetrain in that car? did the straight 8 come with a regular fluid drive?? or something else? my ignorance is showing thru here did the 8 have any particular mech problems?
  10. Havent seen such a nice one in a while I have NO connection,,,just saw it,,now if you look at the ad you know as much as I do. http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/1737201578.html long ways from where it was posted, but I guess thats how it works.
  11. do they make lightning arrestors to prevent lightning from hitting aerial and burning out radio and clock? I checked and changed fuse the clear red one,,no difference. Old one was okay too and now powers something else Is there another relay or other such item that would cause it to not function? It worked fine last time I drove it two weeks ago,,,couple good storms later parked in front lawn,,,no clock, radio, nothing suddenly. this is about 5th radio have been thru in just a few years. Its getting real old.
  12. Just like Tim says,,,at first overwhelming,,then no other way. I flew solo and raised my 5 kids all by myself. After the last couple moved away and I was left empty nested,,,it took a LONG time for the walls to quit talking,,,just TOO quiet, but I even got used to that also. Sometimes I think a contract of forever motherhood should be signed by 'mom' before the doc will deliver the baby!!!! My youngest was 4 when I started,,is now a chemical engineer that is very successful and the rest are RN's with one graduating in a week as a nurse practitioner. to start its one day at a time,,it all gets better every day.
  13. is the end flush or better? my guy takes a nut and wire welds it fast on the inside. then puts a wrench on nut and turn it out. the heat actually helps the whole process. works pretty darn close to 100 % of the time. even if its less than flush cause the weld wont stick to the cast well. Take your time and breathe twice,,,this will be okay!!!! (cause your a good welder)
  14. what you paid for it back then and what it cost today. Just an inflation hedge from my view. Should have bought tons of it!!!
  15. I am thinking my grandpas bought new '50 Dodge came with a 230. Is that right? Anyone put a 251 in there? Does it fit? or cause issues with mounts?,radiator? linkages? bigger is better I am told,,but maybe not HERE Both being fluid drive/3 speeds
  16. I always thought those were called shoulder bolts. (I have been wrong numerous times tho). Lawn mowers even use those for the free wheeling wheels to run on and not getting tight on that part. Yes, bushing stock and a regular bolt would do same thing,,,however not technically correct,,,but functional. Washers too if slightly too long.
  17. I never heard of a grade 6,,,but what do I know??? Usually grade 2,,,5,,or 8. Problem is if you twist off a 8,,its hard to drill like you did the other one. I have found 5's hard enough for anything,,and those are hard to drill too. I would replace with a 2 since it stretches more and actually holds more . 8's snap off quicker yet,if you can believe it,,,they cant 'stretch', tighten as much. I bet that old bolt was mostly broke from somebody else,,,or your too strong. when I was growing up and repairing or installing farm equipment dad would always reply to question of how tight,,,by saying(if big bolt and me small) "twist it off". Till one day I grew up and actually did!! moral of story---know your strength
  18. MOST of you get alot more than we dp here. Hauled in a couple tin roofs off tore down mobile homes,,so you know it wasnt that good of stuff,,,and got $170/ton for about 1800 pounds of tin and got better than expected prices. I think they were quoting $185/ ton for car bodies and they were coming in the door fast,,even with tires still attached,,which earns a dock.
  19. I claim Bob T owes me a quart of monitor cleaning fluid!!!!!!
  20. I know what you mean on draw down after shut off. I have an old Olds van that has a air compressor load adjuster that runs quite a bit and runs my battery down after a week or two also. STUPID set up,,the switch off should shut that off.
  21. Tim, thanks for the help. it is a cord plug in charger as one way, but was told pickup should charge it also,,,no switch,,no solar. there is a little led light that says battery charging,,even when it is unhooked and NOT. i just dont know how this thing works. and me taking it all apart in every little piece seems a not wise solution,,cause electronics and me are soon departed. I never thought of the break away lanyard thing,,will look at that
  22. I have a 16' dump trailer I pull behind my 91 Dodge Cummins truck and have had a problem since it was new. getting worse since I spose battery's are getting older. When the trailer is hooked to truck and big round 7 light plug installed, it runs battery down in dump trailer box,,then if it sets a week or two it runs the pickup battery down also, There is a battery charger in the box to keep battery up,but doesnt. there is a solenoid and button switch in box also to run hydralic motor to raise dump trailer. how do I find where the juice is going? what to test? how to tell which way juice is flowing? If electrical plug is removed from truck 'that' battery will stay up. If not its dead in a week. the thread of a battery disconnect brought this to mind. do I need one in the box and unhook cord each day? Scared I forget it and drag the end and ruining it,,,rather get it fixed right. on the trailer is lites, brakes and hydraulic lift,,and the battery charger box that I disconnected to see if that helped,,,it didnt. thxs -d-
  23. a hangover I spose!!! Congrads to Canada for the win!!!
  24. Does your radiator leak?? I mean have real big holes in it?? If it seeps even runs out thru natural leaks,,,maybe this might help. I have a 91 Dodge Cummins and couldnt even FIND a radiator when mine decided to GUSH water out of it,,,was adding water daily just to get a few miles. It went from a seep and 6 month fill to every day or two. Ordered new radiator and wasnt even close,,,said they couldnt get one, they dont make them cause no body ever needs one. So the guy helping me with this was a hills boy from Tenn. Ky. where his dad ran an old log truck for all its life on ,,,,PEPPER. Said he never bought a lick of silver seal in his life. My deal at the time was buy me a few days till I can find a NEW one. Hasnt leaked a DROP and it will stay right there till it does. It runs just like a new one and the cost was right. Who says we cant live in a 'green' world???(okay it was BLACK pepper!!) Some of those old remedies are better than new parts these days when money is tight. If it doesnt work,,,worst case is you MAY sneeze alot!!
  25. Wish I had some beauties by my side like these. My magnetic personality must be in the OFF position cause NO significant other to be found here. Been single again more years of my life than together with any one. One claimed my new Z-28 Camaro back in 1969, one claimed being isolated and lonely 1 mile from town(On a highway no less).(of which she was never home anyway) Guess I am better off as a solo run from here on out!! But one look at me and they shriek louder than a mouse on there foot!! IB just don
